It appears some of the problem is with the new users (moreover, the reaction of members to new users and their actions).

Point #1 - Why can't the new users have a special new user forum? They have to post x amount of times before they are allowed to post anywhere else on SRF, although they could browse anywhere to view all of SRF. Meanwhile, current members can reply to posts in the new users' area to assist them, help them learn the basics, rules, regulations, etc. When a new user has enough posts (and the green light from the mods) they can be promoted to a member and have access to post on the other areas of SRF.

Point #2 - Members need to learn to discuss and disagree without insult. It's ok to 'agree to disagree' and not call someone a noob, moron, or other choice term. Flames are also not needed.

Point #3 Current members seem to know what kind of posts will exhibit a negative response from the general concensus and should refrain from even posting it. Common sense, ftw. If you read it and you know it's going to tick someone off or cause flaming due to its content, then you are better off to not post it. If a pattern is discovered, then put some restrictions on that user!

I'm sure the mods here have it all covered as best they can, so no need to go any further - It's up to us members now to do the rest. If we all have respect for our fellow board members and show some better manners, everything here would be fine. :D

just my 2 cents. :)

For me, I guess there are three types of posts: interesting, worthless and annoying. The vast majority of the posts fall into the worthless category: people saying: "+1" or "me too" or take a thread off-topic about "I thought you loved me -.-" or something along those lines. Some people think that everything they say has value and should be shared. Personally, I only try and post if I think I can add something new, a unique perspective or experience.

Which makes up the interesting posts. There are several people on this forum whose posts I always look forward to reading. They are almost always funny, or interesting or educational.

And then there's the annoying posts. I guess everyone has their own pet-peeves and mine is the ad nauseam SRO bashing. Several months ago there were a handful of people who quit the game and would come on the forum and take every opportunity to slam SRO and discuss how much better they are because they quit. These posts almost always included "come play GE, it's soooooo much better." It got so annoying to me that I started flaming them. Funny thing is, many of the people that made these posts are back playing SRO...and I bet even more come back to play Euro.

Have I flamed people? A few times. But mostly to point out hypocrisy or when someone asks the same question (or makes the same erroneous statement) over and over and over again, not paying any attention to the numerous answers.

I'm not bothered when people flame individual botters or "out" individual botters. However, I keep my criticism of botters to a general, not specific, sense. I like the policy of the board not to admit to or endorse botting or you will get banned.

I joined another group recently (not SRO specific) and I was amazed that there were pages and pages of threads that were 1) on topic, 2) not flames, 3) packed with content and 4) didn't include a ton of personal chit-chat. I suspect that the demographic is a little different, but not so much that it should make such an extreme difference.

Finally, I'm not kissing anyones rump but I think the new mods are doing a great job. I think they let comments go up to the line and then cut it off. We all know where the line is and I haven't seen the mods abusing their power. Likewise, I don't see any in-group SRF guild privileges or special treatment. I think mods get special treatment from each other (of course) and long-time posters get second chances because it's easier to see their infraction as an anomaly but I see their enforcement as pretty uniform overall.

I'm gonna make every single member a very unhappy person and if I feel like spending some time in Photoshop, redecorate their forum so it looks very....desolatory I'll give U all a couple days to do it but that's it

Maybe there should be a better visible FAQ topic or section about topics like these.

Though i doubt it will help, people are just so anxious about the new update they need to keep talking about it :D

I think mods should implement a way to punish flamers and perhaps also spammers. Like for each warning give them certain points and then when they reach a certain point, ban then for 1 day then for 3 and then for a week and so on.

Honestly, i dont like flamers and spammers. But seriously why pplo let others get under their skin?.. with just a few words they get all mad and stuff like that.

Example: i dont know D2A.. but i ahve seen many pplo flaming him for this and that.. and i havent seen him flame any1 (Now, dont flame me cus im using him as an example).

Deacon wrote:I've been reading SRF for over a year now. Been active at posting for 5 months or so. Lately I am only seeing FLAMES, Flames and a bit more flames. Yet this is a forum. When people ask something that THEY don't know they get flamed because it might be a silly question.

People.. Please don't forget we once started ALSO. A forum is made to SHARE and ask questions you can't solve yourself. Or to share information with fellow people here. Can't you guys stop flaming at a random topic because YOU don't find it interesting.. If you don't care DON'T POST..

Please, let this community don't go down by flaming and other crap. It is a good community keep it that way.

And if you don't care DON'T POST / Nor flame.
Thanks

+1341345 ... dunno why people just cant answer other peoples questions. Its not that hard to either type up a 1-sentance answer or press the back button. I think it takes more brain power to flame them then answer them to be honest lol.

As far as the "use search button" comments... I gotta agree with nightbloom o_O. Its very difficult to find what you want. I typed the EXACT name of the topic title I was looking for... it was on the 7th page of results.

Besides, this forum has millions of topics... im pretty sure everything has been answered already at one point or another. If thats the case and we were forced to use Search, we wouldnt have anything new to talk about >_<

Its growing pains...nostalgia for the "old days" doesn't really help people adjust to the influx...it only reinforces the notion that change is bad...bringing about undeserved hostility towards newer forumers...

Suggestions to fix iSRO:
-Gold wipe
-Daily Bot bans
-Make SoX items acquirable only with Honor Points

I'm new to this forum, i never needed to open a topic. Let alone get flamed for something.

It isn't about being new. It's about attitude and forum etiquette.

This forum feels like a Mensa meeting, compared to some other Silkroad forums I took a quick glance at before registering.

A banhammer could help sort things out. Some of the new idiots take "off topic" to a whole new level. When someone make a legitimate thread it get completely derailed by some ass who thinks he/she is being funny or being rude. If it was up to me i'd start giving out warnings for people. Blank quotes, Necro's, stupid threads, threads in the wrong area, people who can't use the search option, ect. I think you see where i'm getting at.

More strict rules in genral are needed in my opinion. And of course us vets are going to show hostility torwards people who just joined and posted a completely dumbass question without even using the search button.

I'm by NO means a vet. :( Still make mistakes from time-to-time :( but I'm getting to grips with the programme around here; which is why I can sympathise (a little) with these mistakes new users make. But I am still annoyed that people don't use search function. But in turn, that's NO reason for me to FLAME THEM :x Point/link 'em in the right direction. People (especially new users) prefer to be spoonfed rather than find answers themselves. It's probably due to Euro that there's been a nice influx of new users but that WILL tide over as all things do. At least until then, we should all try to be a little more tolerant of these mistakes.

For the sake of the community.
