avg
avast

those are the two i've been using past couple years.
lately just avg.

both of em are free, and seem to work fine.

whatever you do, try not to put any norton on the pc, that
will kill it.

Get Comodo Anti-Malware too. Most of the time the antivirus can't deal with spyware/malware that gets into your computer. Think of the antivrus as a detector and Comodo who destroys it. Best things about it is that it's free and it does real-time scanning in the background while you work. Did I mention it's only 1 mb? :D

Not really. The new Anti-virus is a bit bloated with stuff but the corporate version is nice. The firewall though you would be better off with zonealarm.

Never had any problem with my norton for anything, never get infections. But this is the corporate version.

well my problem is, norton is like 10x heavier for my laptop than any of the free ones.
norton almost never updated, the free ones update virus libraries at least once a day.
norton sometimes randomly started scanning my laptop, making it slow as hell, even after
i turned off all automatic scans.

my biggest problem with norton is, norton never found shit on my laptop.
my harddisk crashed twice.

that program can also tell you when a certain program is trying to change
a certain system value and you have the option to deny it from doing so or proceeding, but its very fragile it will pick up you trying to update windows or other programs sometime but it helped me find out that a virus was trying to change something in system32 folder.

Actually they give you 60 days to activate your avast. All you have to do is register it and it becomes fully functional with updates and such. After you register, they'll send you a registraion key and that's the one you'll use to activate your avast through the splash screen (just open avast and you'll see it). Still free. It just needs to be registered.

Yes just goto the website, download Avast!, register for a e mail key code, type in key code at launch of Avast!, and then you have a 1 year full free version. All you have to do is re register every year xD
