And us. I don't like any of the republican candidates, but even if he isn't as nutty as Huckabee, he's a bold-faced liar (most of them are, but he takes the cake). Anyways, he sucks. Good riddance!

He "suspended" his campaign - meaning he can come back at any time
just like john edwards.

I'd hoped Ron Paul would have been the one who dropped out before Romney...ah well

Well, if you believe that (for either) then you don't understand US politics.

Yeah, you can't say "I'm KIND OF giving up"
When you drop out like that, you can't hope to come back in, because you don't have enough interest in your campaign to begin with. coming back weeks or months later is a joke, because things move too fast here in US politics. You will be long forgotten.

But that's what they are doing... they are "suspending" to hold on to their delegates not quitting. It doesn't matter if they are forgotten or not. I'm guessing it's a strategic move but I don't know what their goal is.

I would like to know there motives then, Cause holding on to something that hasn't put you even near the lead, is kinda weird.

Re: Romney Quits - Thankfully
Oh... I looked on wiki and pulled up this thing about a brokered convention:
So, by holding on to their delegates, Edwards and Romney can influence who becomes the nominee.
If there is no single candidate receiving a majority of delegates at the end of the primary season, a scenario called a brokered convention would result, where a candidate would be selected either at or near the convention, through political horse-trading and lesser candidates compelling their delegates to vote for one of the front runners
So, by holding on to their delegates, Edwards and Romney can influence who becomes the nominee.

Re: Romney Quits - Thankfully
Ah.. ok. Though that still isn't directly beneficial to Romney, unless he had allready give up.

Well, sort of. But also, especially for Edwards, he might be vying for a VP spot too.

Re: Romney Quits - Thankfully
On the Republican side, decisions on how to allocate delegates is left to the state parties.
On the Democratic side, a candidate who "suspends" is technically still a candidate, so he or she keeps both district and statewide delegates won through primaries and caucuses. Superdelegates are always free to support any candidate at any time, whether the candidate drops out, suspends or stays in.
National party rules say that a candidate who "drops out" keeps any district-level delegates he or she has won so far but loses any statewide delegates he or she has won.

Re: Romney Quits - Thankfully
I was flabbergasted when I read the news. Here's the video:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/07/ ... nnSTCVideo
I'm not sure who exactly has control over the delegates. I always thought it was themselves. It does sound like if Romney has control over them then he'll send them John's way, securing the nomination and the Dem win in Nov. This might be good for my man Paul too. It's wishful thinking but more Rep might go searching for another candidate, not that Mitt is compatible to Paul, and the MSM might have something to say besides two candidates. I won't hold my breath though. >_>

Oh hush, learn how to take a joke
Just cuz Ru Paul won't win doesn't mean he didn't get a lot of people energized and probably help steer the debates on issues a bit

Re: Romney Quits - Thankfully
I found nothing funny about your attempt to be sarcastic. It's best to just leave this subject alone...but I see that's hard for you. I do agree with your last sentence even though, overall, you're very pompous. Unless things get back ontopic I see no reason for me to engage in this thread anymore.

You take things too seriously. You think I'm pompous, I think I'm cheerful. If I were talking about Romney or McCain in such terms, you'd be cheering me on, but since it's about YOUR boy, you get all wound up. Calm down.
or don't. hell, what do I care

Unfortunately, for all the smarts the scientist has he fails to see that a perfect Republican candidate already exists.

Re: Romney Quits - Thankfully
I'd like to hear some examples of Romney being a "bold faced liar" cause all i ever hear is people saying that and not backing it up. its kinda funny cause people say that about him and say nothing about hillary who has been caught on national TV contradicting herself and then denying it.
