Maybe not for your country. Everyone will end up having to send billions in $$ relief and accept refugees :p.

I was ready for post apocalyptic society, i had my sword and my horse all saddled with an interesting backstory i would tell survivors that i met along my way before i rode off into the sunset as The Mysterious Mystery Man

Re: Asteroid TU24
Well sweethearts, it finally appeared in the papers here. The whole summary of the article is that UT24 kept a distance of half a million kilometres (1.4 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon). Appearantly there are about 7000 asteroids with this size near the Earth, means that about once in 5 years one gets as close as UT24.
According to NASA a collision between the Earth and an asteroid will happen (according to the statistics) once in the 37,000 years.
However, there's something else that IS going to hit the Earth:
An American spy sattelite. It's broken, not even one year old and has the size of a minivan. It cost hundreds of millions, but due technical mistakes it's never been used. When it reaches the Earth's atmosphere it'll break apart and burn, and what'll remain shouldn't be causing any serious trouble.

I read that too.
"WASHINGTON (AP) -- A large U.S. spy satellite has lost power and propulsion and could hit the Earth in late February or March, government officials said Saturday.
The satellite, which no longer can be controlled, could contain hazardous materials, and it is unknown where on the planet it might come down, they said.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the information is classified as secret."

I could be wrong but I think I remember reading it has a 2.7 % chance of hitting Earth, thats a pretty big chance o_O_o
But NASA is working on all kinds of asteroid collision prevention stuff so I think we'll be fine from the asteroids that we see coming.
At least by then we will. I hope.
