Re: The Best Internet Browser(2)
...Both opera and FF look pretty much the same to me. You can easily make FF look like opera too. Maybe the speed dial will pose some problems, but they are essentially the same.

Re: The Best Internet Browser(2)
anyone know when firefox3 will be officially released?
also about the opera browser, do any of you know if it has some widget similar to firefox's "no script" extension?

Re: The Best Internet Browser(2)
after trying them all i think i'll stick to IE, i don't need the protection of firefox since i dont go to sites i dont trust anyway and i dont care about the extra features opera has...
IE loads pages the fastest so i think its best

Just did a side by side load on "New Highest DMG contest" thread (since it always takes the longest to load for me. FF beat IE by 10 sec+, I started it less than a second before IE. Once it loaded, you would expect IE to speed up....it didn't.

I'm downloading and test driving beta Safari now.Grandpa wrote:Don't forget Safari <~~~~~~ it runs on Windows too

It does look GOOD
~Gpa
EDIT: First impression (after subscribing to del.icio.us for bookmark exports from IE7 and Firefox):
It is about +¼ again faster than mozillia for HTML and significantly faster (Blazing!) with JavaScripting.
Per the perhaps biased information on the Apple DEMO & DL link: > HERE <
- Firefox > IE
- Opera is faster than both Firefox -AND- IE in JavaScript performance ONLY.
[EDIT]: JavaScript benchmarks based on VeriTest’s iBench Version 5.0 - Even there (especially there) Safari outshines 'em all.
It's gonna be my browser of choice, I can tell.

Re: The Best Internet Browser(2)
I just downloaded Safari to try it out and the first thing I noticed is the bold-like fonts. Kinda annoying, gives a darker look to websites. Checked the font settings with Firefox and were the same, but still the font looks bold compared to Firefox. Is it only me?

Re: The Best Internet Browser(2)
Same here re: fonts
More legible but as you say "bold" is a little annoying.
It is itune look. Works ok to show where link has been clicked though.
I re-calibrated my vid card settings to optimize for tru-color movies and that helped some.
What I really don't like is when there are load error / 'errors on page' delay.
I use Firefox now for SRO Forum here, elsewise usingSafari 100%.

Safari uses Apple's subpixel rendering method, which is supposed to make text closer to what it would appear as in print. Firefox on the other hand either has no subpixel rendering, or ClearType if you have it installed. ClearType is more focused on making fonts easier to read on screen.

Re: The Best Internet Browser(2)
I'm comparing Mozilla FireFox Release 2.0.0.14 (pretty sure it's the latest) with Safari 3.11 (525.17) beta for PC.Shynygamie wrote:FF2 owns. It's so fast, it beats Opera.
For direct comparison of Opera to Mozilla (Firefox) the HTML and JavaScript benchmarks show Firefox is slower than Opera (except for HTML ONLY).
Per benchmarks based on VeriTest’s iBench Version 5.0 using default settings:
Safari is far better than all in HTML -AND- JavaScript performance.
I did note that Apple got their parser and 'spidermonkey' coding from the MPL (Mozilla Public License Version 1.1, found at http://www.mozilla.org/MPL.

Re: The Best Internet Browser (FF3 vs Opera9.5)
AHAH! Tis' a duel!
Opera9.5 http://www.opera.com
vs
Firefox 3 http://www.mozilla.com
They have both been released fairly close to each other. Which one will win??
IMO Opera is still the 'big daddy', but Firefox is catching up. O_O.
RAM Usage

Firefox3 Displaying Ask.com

Opera9.5 Displaying Ask.com

Go Opera.

Re: The Best Internet Browser (FF3 vs Opera9.5)
i think im gonna make the switch to 'big daddy'.
EDIT:
couple questions i like to ask u draq,
--does opera hold an options menu to display all known usernames/passwords that Opera has remembered? cuz firefox does, like if i forgot my username, i go to options then security then find out the websites user/pass.
--when downloading things, does opera have a mini bar at the bottom of the browser displaying wat im downloading at which speeds?

Re: The Best Internet Browser (FF3 vs Opera9.5)
I've been using Opera for about 3 years now.
In my opinion, it beats FF and IE in everything. On my pc, it loads faster than FF and IE, as i only use add-ons i really need, and dont have extravagant themes.

Re: The Best Internet Browser (FF3 vs Opera9.5)
Yeah, I thought that was funny too.
I've noticed a few times FF didn't load some CSS... and it's usually when Javascript is being used to load the CSS... or maybe the 3rd party host (like Akamai for Ask.com) isn't returning the requested CSS files fast enough. In either case, I bet the site developer is more to blame than the browser itself.
