how will bard do as main class

i know its mainly a sub but my friend does almost the same dmg as me and im a pure int wiz
im lvl 30 and do 1400 dmg to kokoru with fire bolt
not sure what attack he used but is lvl 28 and did 1180 to kokoru as well
if i go bard should i go pure int
would cleric be a good sub since i get more def

Did your friend have buffs and did you have buffs? If you guys both did, maybe you didn't max out your skills or maybe you stink.

bards are generally as strong as wizards without life control on but like twice as fast

Bard as a main can be great, but it's a tough build to lvl up and you wont really get strong until u reach 60 (at 60 you get a 3rd nuke)

Cleric is definately the best subclass, you'll need the cleric buffs for pvp.

Don't let the numbers fool you. Booming Chord does not do nearly the damage of a Fire Bolt. On my level 28 full int bard/wizard, the Booming Chord only does roughly 70%-75% the damage of a Fire Bolt with no Life Control. Since both professions are on the same char, and my staff and harp are similar in stats, I think this comparison is valid.

I think the reason is because the main wizard mastery increase every nukes 's damage, on top of the 4% damage buff passive. Bard 's main mastery on the other hand does nothing.

Horror Chord is surprisingly strong for its speed. But Blooming Chord 's damage was very disappointing. All in all, if nuking is what you have in mind, do not count on Blooming Chord. Mix a wizard nuke with Horror Chord is the way to go.

No comment on Weird Chord and Blooming Wave, since I never tired them and never seen anyone uses them.
