shut down issue

Post by ---Rev--- »

I posted about this in Genereal Discussion a while back and havent had the issue since, however it started again today.

What happends is that the screen will go black and the fans will speed up as if first booting up the machine, but for a couple of seconds the sound is still running which then stops and repeats itself as if stuck. But the machine doesnt actualy turn off it just sits there, I have to hold down the power button to turn it off.

This doesnt happen when I am just doing nothing on the comp, however it has happend once or twice when I turn it on again right after it has happend.

It seems to me like its the power suply, as the temps dont seem to be that high when I reboot and temp check. the main thing that makes me think this way is that it doesnt happen if I am not underload... it will happen at random times in games for instance I was in SRO for around an hour before it did it last time, but when I booted up counter strike source is shutdown as it was loading the program. So my guess is a power issue maybe the power supply is dieing and cant take the load anymore... however its funny that it doesnt do it everytime which is what is confusing me.

Any Imput would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure it's the powersupply. Had the same problem, got a new powersupply and the problem was solved. :)

Yeah when I had the problem I wasn't sure either, so I tried everything to fix it, but in the end it was the powersupply.
When I got it replaced they also told me a malfunctioning powersupply can screw things up pretty bad, so it's recommended to get a good one asap.

So I put a new powersupply in yesterday and the problem is still happend when I turned the machine on and tried to play SRO... I took it to my local computer store to see if they knew what was wrong with it.
They said that they did memory tests, virus and adware tests and even played a game on it for a while and nothing happend... So I took it hope and changed the surge protecter that I am using and the electrical socket that it is plugged into.. It was running fine upuntil about 5 mins ago when the problem happend again whilst playing sro for around 20 mins.

Any further suggests as to what it might be that is causing this problem.

This is the spec that I am running:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6420 @ 2.13GHz
MotherBoard: Asus P5N-E SLi NF650i S775
Memory: Csair Twinx DDR2 XMS2GB PC5400
Video Card: 256MB XFX 7900GS 600M XXX
Powersupply: 600W ENERMAX EG701AXVE 2PCIE
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp

Before all this happend it basicly ran 24/7 only being turned off when I left the house which being the no life shut in that I am was very rare.

I have been running video converting for the past 3 hours without a hickup and played sro for a few hours as wll on and off. Even though it occured again this morning before I left for uni, it hasnt happend again since even though its bascily been doing things all the time it has been on.

This is gonna end up driving me crazy as I cant leave it alone incase it does it again bt i still dont have any idea of what it could be.
