It went .. Polka....opera...blues..jazz...disco.....pop..... (hip-hop +rock ATM.)
When this "fad" is over and the rise of a new music empire rises what type of music is up next in your opinion =x?I have noticed Rap has always been repeating it self over and over again. If you listen closely the only thing that changes is the beats basically.. The rest is the same.
So how much longer you think ti'll hip-hop era is over ?
I give it 30 years left ti'll a new music type rises...
(Rock is starting to die too for those of you who don't believe me meh)
(Regarding humans exist)
When did pop go out? It's still here. And since when is rock a fad? Rock AND pop have been around for decades, yes in different forms, but still here.

Re: End of hip hop.....
MAN, Y'ALL ARE YOUNG!!!!! techno has been around for a very long time, it is just starting to get recognition though. i was spinning house, jungle, and goa in '91-'92 in one of the side rooms at the limelight in the days when keoki (punk bitch) was killing it in the main room. i didn't learn about breaks till the first time i came to miami in '96 when i met rabbit in the moon and mike & charlie who sent me home from vacation with new cratefuls of records. Then about 6 years ago i quit doing drugs (well, hardcore drugs, pot is a coping element of life) and realized how much techno sucks. i still dabble in electronic music trying to remix classics (floyd, hendrix, etc), otherwise, my partner james keeps the label in line and puts out new shit on the regular. you can check out the new joints at the site http://www.dorjerecords.com/
and hip hop will not die. no music will ever die, it just loses it's soul. hip hop is the heart and soul of RAP music. rap is the actual genre. tupac and biggie were hip hop. elvis and the beatles were rock. these will never die. the crap that we are subjected to on today's airwaves. that shit will die and hopefully be burried in an unmarked grave. but the true sounds, they will never die!!!!!
OT: have you ever to vinyl (a record)? if not, try it. it is the truest sound you will ever hear!!!!!

Vinyl does sound great. It has a much warmer tone. Drums usually sound way better on vinyl. However, vinyl prices have gotten crazy expensive. It used to be mad cheap. Plus, I don't like techno, so if I'm buying vinyl, it's only for rock or metal stuff

In the following, I might be going off with wrong assumptions. Please correct me if so.
Personally, I consider fully computer-generated music worthless. Indeed, every single track on the market is computer-processed and arranged. However, as far as I am concerned, there's no way one can compare the Disturbed's Guitar sound to something that comes out of a synth and computer only. To me, that's electronics, NOT music

I disagree. There are large amounts of synth or computer-generated music that is fantastic and worth-while. Take Depeche Mode for example. While they do use a blend of real and synth, they do so well, in my opinion. Other bands do as well. Massive Attack is a great example. I think viewing things in such black and white terms limits you on what you might enjoy

Disagree strongly,I do that exact thing, and it requires mad skills, patience, and musical talent.
As for rap, I think its dying but older rappers ex... Outkast, cee-lo, are comin out with new alblums and will brng it back, also theres still some good rap music coming out, which imo is way better than rock...

Can't be compared, and many people have different tastes.
I personally like both. Well in general mainstream music has been degrading in quality, but the majority of good music is not played on radio/tv.
Not that all mainstream sucks, just the majority of it.

Thanks cin.

Mezzanine is a top 10 album.
Hip hop, as a genre, is not dead and won't die. Its popularity will rise and fall, but it won't go away.
The music of tomorrow? I think the anthemic soundscapes of Mum and Mogwai warrant further exploration. Probably won't hear it on the radio, but what those bands are doing will bleed into the mainstream. The American Minimalist composers like Glass and Reich still influence modern electronic music so we'll see where that goes.

A lot of North Americans think techno is dead, and it isn't that popular; atleast where I live. But, they've never been to Europe.

Re: End of hip hop.....
As it stand with "race" music, well from what I've noticed at least is, That r&b and soca will always be just there, that's it just there. rap is dieing only a few rapper (mainstream) are keeping it alive. Those are Lil' Wayne ( as much as I would hate to admit this it is true), Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Jay Z. Hip Hop is dead and if it isn't yet it will be soon.
Now me personally I've noticed that I am drifting all over the board now just listening to a bit of anything. From daft punk to isley brothers and everything in between.

Re: End of hip hop.....
techno hhmmm i don't think so, since the world is so big you think the music fads would stay the same in they own regions, new fads usually start with new instruments so unless they invented something in the last 10 years that plays differently then other instruments i don't see the fads changing but rather they might get more boring.
