I think it is...for a while people were saying it was a film about an Elder god waking up and destroying humanity...and well Cthulhu is an elder god and he is also water based.
Also it would kind of make sense, Cthulhu was banished to earth by the other elder gods and apon awakening goes into a fit of rage seeing how humanity has spreed over the world. So basicly he wakes up and is very pissed off.
Cloverfield is a fun movie. Plain and simple. It’s sit back, relax and go. It’s a roller coaster ride. JJ Abrams wanted to make an American monster movie, and he has done just that. Cloverfield is not a Godzilla rip-off, it’s the reinvention of the monster film. This is the story about characters trapped in a monster film. They aren’t the characters that would be in the big Hollywood blockbuster version, or even an D-level take by The Asylum or Troma. These characters are the people running away from Godzilla. They have no urge to defeat the monster, they just want to get away and reconnect with their loved ones. This is a human story which just happens to take place during this gigantic moment of fear.
also spoiler alert dont click here maybe u cant help it but after i read this movie seems short and not intrested although i know it can and not be 100% accurate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloverfield

it was awesome a really great monster movie....It had good characters and while you wanted to beat some of them over the head the ones you end up liking were in the film long enough for you to enjoy it. If i could describe it one word it would be "intense" The way the camera moves really puts you into whats going on in the film, your confused when the characters are confused, your excited when they're excited, your anxious when they're anxious it really draws you into the experience....
for what it is and what its worth i'd give it a 8.5/10

Thanks for the answers satman and xemnas =D and how does it look? And is it only me or does this movie seem to be quiete short and third point does this movie even have a proper finish?
if you want an explanation for why and what happened your not going to get one, i don't think the movie needs one, i think thats what pulls you in because you really don't know whats going on and while you'd like to know whats going on you know you don't have time for an explanation nor would it help solve the problem....
That being said i didn't who was left at the end so the last 5 min wasn't my favorite part i did like how it ended...

Hey this monster stole my IGN on Pluto . I am going to see it with my 8 other people in about 30 minutes, I am excited. NOthing would have pleased me more than for this to be Cthulu based and have all of humanity just go batshit insane when it came out of the ocean. But, I can settle for a monster movie. I have the poster as my desktop background. Cant wait!
Just saw it. Wow. I've never had a movie far and excede the hype it was given and the personal high bar I had set for it. Xem was right, the key word for this movie is intense. If you like thrilling movies this is a must see. I'd warn all people that there's really not a story here, just an experience and you're living it. Just look up Cloverfield reviews and there's a great number of people crying over the lack of story. Saying it sucks because of it. They obvious didn't realize they were going into a MONSTER movie. God I want to bitch slap some pompous people. As of right now, still on the movie high, I'd say this is the best movie I've ever seen. "We could climb up over there and cross over." "OK" "Damn"
i would've liked for the movie to give more of a backstory, or maybe what happened after. but the lack of a story does not take away from the pure awesomeness of this movie. in my books, this story lived up to its hype.
Saw it last night. Considering I had idea what I was gonna see, and my friends dragged me to go see it (I kept on calling it MushroomLand as I could never remember Cloverfield). Anyway, I enjoyed it, best part IMO: "WHAT IS THAT" "It's terrible thats what it is" 10 minutes later "OMG WHAT IS THAT?" "That...is also...terrible"
