if you dont have anouther good weapon like a +7 to use if it fails dont do it, I made my +9 since I had 2 differnt +7's to use, once mine was +9 then a couple of days later I made my other staff a +8, then tried for 2 +9's and one failed, now I have a +7 and +9 again after getting it back from +0.

Same opinion, only go for +9 when you have a spare weapon, and a decent one. So if you have a +7/+8 in reserve, do it. Otherwise, don't.
