Computer trouble w/ USB port.
My computer is about 5 years old and over the last 2 its been nothing but problems. This issue concerns my mouse and USB port. A couple years ago, my old mouse started acting up. It was an optical. It would work for a minute, then the light would flash and stop working. After a couple seconds it would work again, but only for a few minutes. The cycle would repeat itself. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating.
Thinking it was the mouse we went and got a new Logitech mouse. This mouse worked for 8-10 months until now. We've had our motherboard replaced this past week and now this mouse is having the same problems. I dont think its the mouse but I could be wrong. My USB port is the back if that helps anyone. I seriously think theres something wrong with the ports. Either that or I will just keep having to recycle mice. Keep in mind that I am very ignorant about computers so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I had the same problems. At first it was the mouse, the wire connecting to the mouse was loose and it kept disconnecting. Then, it was the mouse again, the red LED that provides light was burned out. Finally, it was the USB ports - all I needed to do was do what stallowned suggested. However, it might be a power issue too.

Serial port is the Green plug right?
I found a old mouse and its working perfectly. I will still take suggestions and try what Stallowned suggested.

I get what ya mean now. Just had to verify what you meant lol. I had 2 of those adapters lying around. Now its just a matter of finding them.
