Hi all. I have been playing Silkroad for a few days and im at lvl 16, pure STR glaive with fire, kept a 6 lvl gap to get more SP, and have been really interested in becoming Hunter when I reach lvl 20.
Though I have been searching through the forums for a while and cannot find any information, tips/useful info on the class, so I would just like to ask a few things:
1. Have I got a good build for hunter and is a SOS or higher weapon needed?(currently using a lvl 16+1 glaive).
2. Is lvl 20 too low to start this class since most thiefs will be higher than me?
3. What are the rewards from Hunter ? (Thief you obviously get items, Merchant is more profit from selling goods between towns).
4. Should I think about another force (maybe ice?) if I wil be going PvP?
5. When is it realistically a good level to become a successful Hunter?
Any info regarding these questions is much appreciated ^^.

Re: Help with Hunter
While I have no experience with hunting myself, this is what I've heard from others
1. Get the best weapon availible. SOS will definately help
2. There is not much to do for any job at lvl 20. You cant even escort 1* trades to Donwang because most likely you can't handle the mobs on the way there.
3. Nothing except for job exp and pride. Most traders will pay you for escort at higler lvls tho.
4. I don't think ice it very helpful at all anymore (with the new alchemy), especially ot for hunters. A full str fire glaive seems to be good for most situations.
5. From around lvl 25 can escort traders on the Jangan-Donwang route, but you won't have much of a chance against player thieves. But there will always be someone higher than you, so you might as well get used to it, while still having fun and doing your best.
Hope it was useful ^^v Feel free to correct me if Im wrong, after all as I said I have nill experience myself.

I wouldn't waste on a SoS glavie that you'll grow out of so fast.
You can't get SoS/SoM/SoSun from alchemy, they only drop from mobs.
I'd mostly agree with Indus there, but I'd say level 26 would be a good level to start escorting one star traders, but be very whary of player theives, and high level NPC theives. Expect to get killed at that low of a level. The higher level you start, the better. You'll never be the top though.

1. pure str has always been considered a good build =] always try to obtain a +3 weapon with a critical value of at least 8
2. lvl20 is the lowest joblevel so yeah almost ALL thieves will be higher lvl then your char
3. the npc thieves can drop items, as you gain hunter exp your char will be able to fight thieves better. as far as rewards there ain't much to get for a hunter, maybe the merchant you;re protecting might pay you for your services.
4. Jobbing vs npc thieves close to your level it doesn't really matter what imbue you have. As far as player thieves its whatever makes your boat floats, that can be fire for highest dmg or ice to slow the biatch down and slowly kill em
5. realistically there isn't a real level in which you can become a succesfull hunter, depends on the merchants you're protecting and their respective level and wether player thieves of high level lame you etc. for jangan area the best lvl would be 29+, at dh 37+ and hotan 47+ if you want to start some serious hunting

NPC thieves spawn at levels based around the trader's level. If the trader is doing a low-star trade, the NPC thieves will be white or green to him. Higher-star trades will spawn multiple white and even orange mobs. No matter what star-trade the trader does, there is always a chance of a double-spawn occuring (2x the number of usual thieves) and there is always a chance of a Champion thief appearing. However, there are no Giant thieves, so fear not.
I actually did that thing in Mixmax's Sig!

Hi,
as a thief (that does a lot of escort work) I can try to give some hints about needed Lvl:
Be sure to be able to handle all mobs along the trading route, even a giant gangbang. Dead hunters are no help for any trader ;-)
Be sure to know the way your trader has choosen! You'll have to tank/ distract enemies for your trader to escape, and you'll need to find it fast again, it may be in new trouble ...
Maybe try to do some escort jobs without job item equipped? It's by far more easy - have your ID card ready, but don't use it if not needed!
I know that a low lvl thief is a welcome target to most bored high lvl hunters and traders passing by, and I saw some little hunters getting slaughtered over and over by bored higher lvl thieves - thus I'm usually carrying an ID card, too, to be able to help even if it costs me some of my thief XP ...
Wearing job suit makes you vulnerable, and unlike a thief you need to wear it all the times to collect job XP.
Another idea would be to try thief job first - this would give you a nice opportunity to learn things from another point of view first.
About build: Hunters need to kill fast and tank well. 'nuff said.
In case you're on Babel: Please don't attack me if you happen to see me in suit - I hate beeing forced to kill anyone! Be assured I didn't kill anything for my loot - I'm the zero arrange points guy ;-)
You might come to help me, collect job XP on my NPC thieves, be protected by my harmony circle and rezzed, if needed. Or you might attack a poor loneley thief riding into the sunset on its transport, only to realize that even a pacifistic thief might have an not-so-pacifistic mean bow ;-)
So do some more grinding, get comfortable with the roads from Jangan to Donwhang, learn how to do the job, and don't forget:
Have fun!

Picking up everything that doesn't have a trader attached ...
