Any overclockers out there?

Post by __MagnuS__ »

Just got an AMD 5000+ Black Edition and i ramped that sucker to a stable 3.3ghz with nothing more than a minor voltage bump (1.5v) and a multiplier boost to 15.5x. Rock solid so far on all benchmarking software and it dont crash playing CoD4 or Crysis with all the specs on blast.

My rig:
Mobo: GA-M57SLI-S4
Pro: AMD 5000+ B.E. oc 3.3ghz
VC: EVGA nVidia 8800GT 512mb SSC Edition (runs EVERTHING on high)
Mem: Super Talent 1x2gig stick DDR2 800
HDD: WD 160g 7200 rpm
Case: Antec 900 gaming case (the thing is SICK!)
Cooling: Artic Cooling Artic Freezer
Media: LiteScribe DvD burner.

If you are new to OCing and want some tips, or to be lead in the right direction, feel free to ask. I'll get back to you as fast as I can.

Very sweet indeed, nice rig btw. I wanna go liquid cooled soon, and then get a Phenom or the new Quad from Intel and build an intirly new rig from the ground up. It'll be sweet, but pricey. We'll see though.

The price of those parts have dropped a lot. Easy to build a nice gaming PC for about 500

Liquid cooling isn't that worth it.. Some passive coolers can cool better than liquid.. waste of money imo.

Last time i overclocked something was 5 years ago with my 2.4 celeron lol

i was over clocking my graphics card once. it sort of went like this

overclock a little -> test it -> works fine
overclock a little -> test it -> works fine
overclock a little -> test it -> works fine
overclock a little -> test it -> works fine
overclock a little -> test it -> whole screen goes grey and graphics card starts huming really loud.

There was nothing in between. it just went from perfectly fine and then instntly catastrophic in one little tweak. I dont think it left any permenant damage though, nothing blew up like it did on one of my old computers.

Sure do/did. I wasn't the first to oc a K5, though...

Currently running X2-3800@ a really mild 2.2 (darn Gigabyte boards) but have in my possession:

E6600 (2.4)
Abit IP-35E (no, no RAID, tyvm)
2 gigs Corsair

Now I need to get time away from the wife, real life, Silkroad, etc, and actually BUILD the thing. This one's used, but a 6600 should be an easy 3.0.
If faith is a crutch, I'm not limping anymore.

If i was gonna pay for a step of cooling above air and passive/hybrid i would do phase change coolin. Overclocking is fun though, if you know what your doing...otherwise you could screw up badly. lol i can imagine so kid going in his BIOS and putting the frequencies all the way up...
