It's also something certain females emulate. Not to sound sexist here--which I'm not--but I think of when I see these films and look at all the women these characters attract. It's that "power is sexy" meets hybristophilia mentality. I'm not envious of these characters either because I know all those women are there for is to leech off of them which they've no problem with so long as they're getting something out of them as well. Gangster co-dependency I reckon. lol
In many cases these stories are quite similar: guy with nothing makes his way to the top, his ego inflates along with his bank account, he foolishly snorts, drinks, and f_cks it all away, the woman (or women) in their lives either end up resenting them or are scared away (some are killed), they're lost in the disaster they created, and ultimately they die or go to prison--or both. It's how it works in real life.
It's as I said, I've NO envy or jealousy of what these guys are because once they become what they are, it's only downhill from there. FBI and police breathing down your neck, always having to run and hide, be elusive, and have rival thugs gunning to kill you. Uh, no thanks. I prefer to make good money I make MY way: legitimately.

The ones that wear baseball caps can look cute. And I know a few who like to punch. I guess if they're cute it can slide.
