Then I try replacing it with an l or an I, let's try an l and pm him

ok, since the l didn't work then the last letter is an i, I write it down and proceed to the next one

Replace it with an l... and pm him

ok it worked! write it down and keep going

That's it <.< though I prefer pk2 edit but this method is fine too

God... I can't belive so many people don't know how that works with only a maximum of 12 tries...Matrixman is a Farking retard for someone smart enough to figure out the total combinations for a 2^12 problem... It's not really basic math but that makes him even dumber.

If you can't figure out how PK2 works, just use the modified arial font file, it won't mess with your SRO and it only screws up 1 letter so that's fine.

Matrixman for once i don't actually agree with your posts, this being very rare as i ussually agree with what you say.

Though your logic is correct in saying that if you used basic trial and error to find the name it will take ages, the other method stated here really does work.

Ill right out the full example got lazy so its short to further prove it.

Now what you do is just click on the text of the spam, and the spammers name will be displayed in your chat box.

Now the following is me trying tp pm the spammer

Code: Select all

IlIIIllIIIll = yay successful pm
<insert deleting last letter>
IlIIIllIIIl = oh noes i cant pm him
<insert replacing the last l with an I>
IlIIIllIIIlI = oh noes not again, that means logic dictates that it must be a l
<writes down on a piece of paper that l is the last letter>
Now lets move onto the 2nd last letter
<deleted 2nd last letter in the name>
IlIIIllIIIl = oh noes i cant pm him anymore
<insert an l as the 2nd last letter>
IlIIIllIIIll = yay i can pm him. Logic then tells me that the 2nd last letter is an l.

Now unless you really suck at figuring out simple logic, you can see that by repeating this step for all 12 letters will result in finding the correct name in 12 - 24 steps.

Just as a little side note, everyone in this thread has been telling you to "find" the spammer and shift click him. Don't try doing that, it will waste time. Just simply click on his spam text and it will automatically bring his name up in your chat box. Much easier that way.

LOL now that would be what Matrixman was referring to, with his 4096 possible combinations, because without the process of elimination that all of the others are talking about, that would be damn near impossible.....but with process of elimination, Matrixman's 4096 possible outcomes are not needed, because you can do what everyone else says and go from the last letter and check every one to see if you can pm them

lets say the spambot has given name: LLLiiLiiLLLi

now lets say you start with going all L's
obviously that doesnt work, so your next sequence of guesses will be as follows:
LLLLLLLLLLLi
LLLLLLLLLLii
LLLLLLLLLiii
and so on until you reach Liiiiiiiiiiii
now none of those work and you are already at 12 guesses...i might add that ur "logical" approach to this isnt even close to the actual name of the spambot yet
now lets say you reverse starting with i's
needless to say, you get the same unsatisfatory result, now you are up to 24 guesses and still not even close
what i am trying to show you is that trial and error wont work, there are far too many possibilities.

you don't start with all L's, you start with the correct name by shift-clicking the character. this is why it can be done in at most 12 tries. you can manipulate each letter individually.

i just use my modded Arial font. it's not perfect but you can tell.

I thought the block update will be very usefull but once the update is here i see spammers with hard names that cant be blocked.. 12 letters consists of capital I and lower case L..
how to avoid this?

hmmm, that is quite clever (dont really recall ne1 stating it that clearly here), i still feel pk2 edit or font change is faster and a more permanent solution, as some of them have already changed names.

someone who i gave one of the names too said that when he pm'd the spambot, it said "cannot find user" even tho i was standing in front of the bot, perhaps they spelled it wrong, or maybe it was a glitch. nvrtheless, i still fell pk2 edit is faster and permanent

but i will admit i did not understand the method in which you guys were using to get their names, i just thought you were randomly guessing and getting lucky

The can't do that simply because of the crowding issue, it might take a while for that bot to get in and if it gets in 1 min before the next bot and the DC in 1 min, the next bot will have to try and log in for an hour... Makes it just as useless as being blocked.

You don't have to pk2 edit anything.

Shift+click the spammer so you get his name in the chat bar. Erase the last l or I in the name and type a capital i instead. Then try whispering something to the guy. If it works you know it should be a capital i. If it doesn't work it's an L. Write that down or something, then erase the second last letter and type a capital i. Try whispering again.. do the same with every confusing letter in that name.

Takes max 2 minutes to do and you don't have to mess with SRO.
