David Petraeus - Current US commander in Iraq
Vladimir Putin - controversial man, but he's trying to build Russia back into a economic power
J.K. Rowling - meh, the Harry Potter books have been popular and at the center of controversy for years so this isn't too much of a suprise

Putin is not a strange option for the reward. It doesn't take a professor to see that he actually plays the political game very well on several fronts, national and international in some cases. Though not fully according to democratic values, this man knows exactly what he's doing, and he's doing it with 100% succes. Even when he steps down, he'll be in charge, he makes sure he is. Which might not be pretty, but damn smart of his side. He get's away with it.

It might seem he'd get rewarded for doing bad things, but look at it from another point of view, which is always healthy.

J.K. rowling is a solid addition to the list for her life story. But even more for the last chapter of HP. She implemented certain events, most writers wouldn't even dare to think about in SUCH a succesfull range of books. And she did it succesfully.

Taking these 2 in consideration, the rest of the list, i agree is kinda lame.

The thing is, which people keep missing, is that he is not getting "rewarded". He is merely being recognized for the influencial and important role he is playing within Russia, but also on the international stage. Yes, I think he is a terrible person. But, that's not the point. I think you could make an argument for Hu Jintao as well. But, definitely Putin makes sense. He's not only transforming Russia (I argue for the worse) but he is greatly influencing trade in the region and negotiations relating to many things, from Iran to N. Korea.

And why do you think that he is transforming it for the worse? :?

It takes more then a 'dump' to write a story that grasps the entire world. She obviously very talented in such manor, and i respect that.

good additions to the topic boys...

Quit backseat moderating dickbag.

I actually value a good read without you ruining it with worthless comments, that doesn't make me a moderater, but an interested reader, annoyed by your 'dickbag' comments.

so gtfo allready, this comment wasn't worth anything either.

---------------

I don't know if Putin's transforming the country for the worse, Economically Russia has been doing better under his command in several ways. Though i don't like the way the image of a solid democracy is being kept up unjustified, cause weird stuff is going on behind doors.

Like the latest election, can't deny being a little suspicious about the way that worked out.

Why? Hmmm, i don't know, a progressive anti-free speech campaign that includes tighter controls on media such as the press. Focusing more heavily on state run media and the harrassment and even jailing of oppsosition leaders???? That just the tip of the iceberg

I said ONE thing about JK Rowling, and you got pissy. Calling us "shit" and now "postcount whores." It's not my fault you can't muster the effort to scroll down past our comments or gain the ability to ignore things that obviously don't interest you. If this were in fact YOUR forum I might care that it gets on your nerves. But since it's not, save your energy, it can be better used on people who are actually trying to spam and pad their post counts.

Yes, absolutely, the only effect of increasing CO2 levels is that we'll be able to eat more. Sure, and that applies to the ENTIRE world. Man, you got it figured out. Oh, and the Northwest Passage will help increase trade via shorter shipping routes. Yay for more money in your pockets!

"God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't."
