Race or Religion?

ok well ive been wondering this for awhile.
do u think being Judeism(sp?) is a race or religion?
now people will say religion usally but think about it.
people say "oh u look jewish. well how can u say somone looks like a religion.
oh that person looks christain, or looks like this ect ect.
also the sterotype "look" of a jewish person,(nose hair voice ect) once again how can you look like a religion?
so i was just wondering, what is ur opinion?

yeah race is a likely factor, I doubt that there are white muslims or taoist arabs out there

jews r the "chosen" ppl if i remember correctly.
judaism is a religion but if some1 says ur jewish then thats a race.

Never heard anyone say "Oh you look Christian" but you can thank a specific group of Judaism for the stereotype "Jew" look. I can't remember what the group was called but they're the ones that all have the same things about them like the curly sideburns and stuff, and they're really mega religious.

you're referring to the Hasidim I believe.

religion. I know a couple of Black Jews.

@jstar- And i know a White Muslim....its not as uncommon as you think if religions proven one thing its that its capable of transcending all racial barriers...

Yeah, they're called Hasidic Jews. Those curly sideburns you're talking about are called payos. We're reading a book about them in English.

Referring back to the original question, if you talk specifically about "Judaism," you're talking about the religion; if you call someone Jewish, you could either be referring to race or religion, or both.

Well it all falls under the same ignorance factor as saying "people from X nation are gay" is racism. Nationality isn't race and neither is religious belief.

First of all, the premise is acutally incorrect. You should have used ethnicity, since "race" is a social construct used to differentiate based on things such as skin color whereas ethnicity takes more things into account. Race implies that humans are actually physically different based on physical features, which is not true...ethnicity takes into account more variables....

I can't see if someone is a Jew or not. but ofcourse jews are no race. Hitler called them a race but don't listen to hitler.

Btw you can see if someone is muslim or not.

Hasidim are the "stranges jews" cause i dont know what are they exist for? i mean they try to dennie that holocaust has happened , well they could believe in god more than everybody, but they are aswell a cause for wars..in 3 words- i dislike them.

Jews are just practitioners of The Jewish faith....You can have black, white, hispanic, and asian Jews as long as they follow the jewish faith...

Jews are not a race. Jews can be white, black, hispanic, whatever. Jew is a name for people who are Jewish, by practicing their religion Judaism. Just like people who follow Islam are Islamic, or Christianity are Christians and other stuff.

I think it's more of a religion that a race, unlike many of my friends, who consider me as "The Jew", in a good way. You couldn't really tell that I'm Jewish by looking at me, I look like any other white dude, but for some reason when ppl find out I'm Jewish all of a sudden I have a big nose, which I don't, and i get the "Oh, your dad must own the bank" alot. And its funny when we talk about Jews in class or the word "Jew" comes up some ppl just turn and look at me.
