Raise the minimum age for alcohol from 16>18

Hey guys,

i have to do a project for school ( for Dutch ). I need arguements for and arguements against the proposition: The minimum age for alchol should be raised from 16 to 18 years.

please tell me what you think of this, even if you're not from holland, please tell me if you think this is a good measure or not.

No matter what age they make it to drink now days IT WON'T stop kids drinking from a young age but yeah 18 sounds good

raise the age because students' brain develop all the way into their 20s and drinking underage will stunt their brain development, eventually making them retards by the time they are 50. Even 21 is young. Brains continue to develop a lot in the 20s (yes the time when you are preparing to get a degree for a job) and drinking a lot of beer won't help at all

Won't make any difference.

Age 16 -> 14 y/o's can obtain alchohol, or get into clubs.

age 18 -> 14 and 16 y/o's can obtain alchohol, or get into clubs.

Not about the age restriction, its about how to efficiently control that. which u can't. Kids are smart these days.

16 is better, then they learn how to drink before they drive.
That's important.

uh and if those drunks kill other people in a car crash? maybe if they got drunk and killed themselves that would be fine but getting drunk endangers other people

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

drinks like beer and mix drinks, but you cant get liquors before you turn 18?
in the NL that is.

i think raising the legal drinking age to 18 wouldnt hurt anybody, same should
go for age to buy tobacco then. i am, however, glad that i knew my limits by
the age of 16 when we still went places on our bikes, rather than cars. now,
me and my friends never drink when we drive and really dont mind it
either. we have more fun in driving than we have in drinking :]

In Holland any alcoholic drink with an alcohol percentage under 15 can be purchased at the age of 16. These are also the drinks that can be bought in supermarkets.

Any drink with more than 15 % alcohol can only be purchased with the age of 18. These are the drinks that only can be found in cafetarai's and alcohol shops.

i do go out alot, but i also don't know what it is -.-
