sig question

im trying to make my own sig from scratch. ive gotten alot of ideas on the main part of the sig, but im having issues with the background. so my question is ...

where, how do you come up with those bad ass backgrounds? alot of sigs on here, man are some great stuff. just wondering how to come up with the multiple shadow effects within the bg itself.

are you cutting the bg from something else then adding the cool things to it later, or are the bgs that you all make here from scratch?

if you want an example of the bg of the sigs im talking about, see the peoples sigs below... ^^

yea so the font sucks and all that, but dam, brushes are the shit for real. that is how you come up with those cool BG's... btw thanks for the deviant art tip... great brushes there ^^

Havnt looked at the sigs you but as far as I know Caras, Miyoko, .reK dont use brushes, maybe some but only for small effects.

I usually start with a render, and then start thinking about a background that fits it. I usually choose colors or the style for the background depending on the render itself.
I never really have a plan on how it SHOULD be looking, I just try to get the look that I want and change bits by bits until I'm happy with it.

I usually don't use brushes, the only sig I made that uses brushes was this one:

(Brushes for this one are created by Annika Von Holdt.)

The majority of my backgrounds are made from scratch, and sometimes I add a photograph with it aswell, but as I said, it just depends on the render I use.

ok when you say render, ..... i dont get it ...

filter -> render -> OPTIONS = clouds, difference clouds, fibers, lens flare, lighting effects ...

so when you say render, what do you mean, i tried the fiber thing, and my image ended up looking like bark from a tree, the clouds thing i use to make lightning ... so far im using the lighting effects, layer by layer....

im pretty sure tho thats not what yall are talking about =P

Render is a cut out image in your sig, in your case Homer.

render = cutout, stock = actual photo, screenshot, etc., right? like, my sig uses a stock, and yours uses a render. at least that is what i was led to believe.

nevermind, i figured it out. pretty much is all 3d renders ... lol, reading other threads helps on answering questions lmao

alot of people use stocks, and renders for their background

other people just pick a solid color, then use the basic brushes,

i myself like to make a simple background then use filters and distort the render, there are countless ways, all that look pretty good
