+5 or SoS
Which is better for weapons or equips?? +5 or SoS?? That includes the price... I added +3 incase you think +3 is worth better to buy than the others..
Babel:
Pure str lvl 3x glavie
Pure int lvl 3x sword
Venice:
Pure str lvl 7x glavie
In my opinion it depends, for example the char I'm developing needs more sp so I'm gonna farm at 42 with a sos+3 weapon to make it as easy as possible, previous to this I have used +3 weps. Obviously another factor would be money, would you go almost all out of gold for an SoS or spend consideraby less for a +3 which would allow you to equip yourself with better gear

lol , this again.
Why would someone compare sos to +5 its beyond mi imagination , i have seen tons of posts just like this with people saying "dont buy sos its the same as +5".
the thing is that in the first lvl of each degree if you buy sos +3 , then u will have an awesome weapon with the +5-7 of the sos and the +3 of the enchantement.
thats a +8 or +10, alot of advantage expecially in the lower leves of each degree , even better if you are planning to leave a gap and farm some sp.
my first sos weapon was a 24+2 crit 12 spear , worked like a charm untill level 29 , when i saw this 29+4 spear that had more physical and magical damage.
i dont know why ppl insist so much in saying that sos weapons are expensive since u will be able to sell them when your done with them so i really dont see where is the loss here.
+3+4+5 weapons are awesome and great for ppl on lower budgets but need to be replaced every 3 levels.
also when buying sos+3 ppl need to understand how the diference with non + items is worth to cover since u will not have to make alchemy and try your luck in something that is already plussed.

Depending on the level, I'd most definately takea +5 over an SoS.
1. SoS weapons are only available at the first level of each weapon. EG 42. At this level, SoS is the better choice since you can +3 it relatively easily, and resell it for a considerable profit when you're done. However, +5s can be found at any level of weapon. A 45+5 is better than a 42+3 SoS since, although the damage is the same, the 45 will have a higher attack rating, meaning higher damage. The SoS only has its advantage for those first 3 levels out of 10 for each degree.
2. SoS weapons are overpriced. I've purchased +6/+7 weapons at SoS costs. The damage difference is almost 0, but you get a more unique looking weapon for the SAME price. And if the weapon is the 2nd or 3rd level of the degree, you have a better weapon in every possible way. Yes, you'll have to purchase more weapons, but you'll pay nothing in the long run after reselling your weapons anyway. If you have a good guild/union who can supply you with these weapons, there's no contest.
3. For STR, the most important weapon stat is crit. For INT, it's attack rating. SoS have no crit bonus, and generally lower AR than a comparable +'d weapon. It's only because the damage boost is so high that it makes a difference.

False. The SoS weapon will have higher reinforce which is an important factor in damage calculation. Actually, I'm not convinced on the attack rating either. I should do some research but I'll probably forget.

if you're into alchemy you will have less worries in upping an SOS item since if it fails it will just go back to it's basic SOS form (+5). if a +5 item fails there is a big chance that it will go back to being a normal item (+0).
Really?!?! I didn't know that...
Can someone confirm this one??

@kuling110,
which part?
e.g.
if have an SOS+3 item and i want to up it to +4. i do alchemy and if i fails it will be a basic SOS item again. if it succeeds then a SOS+4.
if i had a +5 item instead, and wanted to up it to +6. i do alchemy and if it fails then i get a regular item but if i succeeds then i get +6.
my point is that with an SOS you can always have that +5 property even though you fail alchemy. unless it breaks of course.

Wrong. The BASE stats (the numbers before the %s in parentheses) are much higher on a weapon or armor than its counterpart. SoM and SoSun increase this base even further, for ALL white statistics on the item.
Say you have two level 16 shields.
One is +5, the other is SoS +0. They both have about 12 pdef and 18 Mdef. They both have base block rates. The +5 has a blockrate of 10 (0%). The SoS has a blockrate of 12 (0%).
Say you have 2 level 16 swords.
One is +5, one is SoS +0. They have about the same damage range. They both have critical of 4. The +5 reads 4 (9%) The SoS reads 4 (0%). The base critical rate on SoX items are somewhat improved. My SoM sword has a critical of 5 (0%) as base. It is at 8 (25%) right now, meaning theoretically, it could have a critical of 16-17, a value unattainable on a regular enchanted weapon.
Not that I'm saying that makes SoX WAY better, as alchemy sucks and luck of the drop can go either way, but I wanted to show you proof that the base statistics on an SoX item is slightly higher than a run-of-the-mill enchanted item.
Edit: Oops for adding to a necro'd thread. Oh well. Only 2 month necro.
