its the same scams different day....they come dime a dozen, we hear about em on the forums all the time.
Also, i know you think you can get the scammer back, but its just not possible.
you think ruining his reputation is going to make him give up the gold? people bot and openly admit it...what could you possibly say? Unless you have concrete knowledge of the scammers account information there is NO WAY for you to get anything back.

Ill give you my expert advice. You won't get anything back period. I understand a parents concern for the happiness of their children, but may I ask why you are so overwhelmingly concerned about gold or items in a free game? I would advise you to tell your child that he/she should learn a valuable life lesson from this experience. With it being a free game, it is an excellent learning tool in this realm. It’s a good way to teach him to be honest, because dishonesty can be hurtful even in a pixilated world. Plus, hell be immune to such scams in the future. A lot of the scams that happen in silk road happen out of pure greedy on part of the scamee. Such as "hey want to make your weapon better?" or wanna duplicate that item? I know a cheat," which lead to the other person stealing the items or gold from the player. In which case they deserved it.

From your many comments it sounds like you intend to scam the items/gold back. Now isnt that a very bad example for your child?

this really sounds like someone trying to scam on the forums to get someone to help him scam someone else to be honest.

It appears I will have to do this all publicly. I was hoping to keep it private, but that is not entirely necessary.

Scammer information:

Guild/Title (I think): iSTANBUL * ScarFace06
Name: Kaancigim

He claimed to be an official employee (a GM). Said he needed to check the gold for signs of duping. My son is highly autistic, and his favorite pastime for a long time now has been playing this game. He is excellent at understanding how the mechanics work, and is a tireless hunter, but does not interact with people very well.

He actually believed that a normal player was a GM, and normally I monitor what is going on, but I missed it and my son, trusting this guy, gave over 1 billion gold to him that he worked so hard to acquire. He was ready to give even more but our ISP went down. By the time it was back up, he had already mentioned it to me. Without even knowing too much about the game myself, I knew he had been scammed. If a GM wants to check your account or any items on it, he does not need to ask for it via a trade window.

Anyways, what do you fellows think of this situation?

GM's do help in scam they helped some people out but if the scam did not take place b/c there own system failed

the reputation wise isnt a big deal there is no way 2 really ruin the reputation of someone who just got 1bil gold what you could do is infiltrate his guild and watch if he shares accounts and bribe who ever does with real $ yo hand thta info over or you yourself have him trust yo with his account info only way i can c out of it
or make him fear with legal issues you can always say he used an exploit in stall system and when you bought the 1bil item you did not recieve it there might be a chance gm will find a way 2 role back but if you did the transaction before the wiz suit then i dont c gm getting involved sorry 2 say but maybe trying 2 fix this for your son is really sad, he might of made the mistake and this person simply took advantage it happens in life

I've been playing this game for quite some time now, and I find it hard to believe that ANY scammer would even try something that obvious. gold is simply an amount stored, and anybody trying to scam a billion gold would not try this technique, because they would expect anyone with a billion gold to realize it.

whether or not your son is autistic, i would think the scammer had no reason to know this. that being the case, this is entirely unbelievable(at least to me). nobody in their right mind would try it that way.

even if the scammer himself was an idiot, scammers generally start small, and figure out which scams work. since this one wouldn't work, they'd never get to the billion-dollar level.

About your son was scammed, you cannot do something about it. Only try to explain it to him , there is people that do all what they can to scam ppl for free things. And say to him dont trust someone in the games.

Just because my son suffers from a form of "retardation" it does not mean I cannot use the word "retarded" in it's colloquial sense. Some people are ultra-sensitive to such things, but when you live with it every day being embarrassed or shy about it becomes useless.

How my son acquired it has nothing to do with anything. Besides, I already explained it, if you are willing to read between the lines. I'll be courteous and just tell you, even though, as I said, it is not important.

My son does not get bored, period, when playing most games. He can do the most mundane task forever. He simply found monsters or something that give a good amount of gold, or drop some rare item, and killed them over and over and over.

"There is nothing you can" There indeed is something I can do, and I have already set it in motion. More information from the community would be helpful, but I think I have things under control now.

there are no "politics" in the game. because thats what it is. a game. things happen as a result of people doing them.
joymax implemented preventative measures to keep people from being scammed, as long as they pay attention. but seeing how common sense isnt that common, it still happens. all you can do is be careful with it. if you get scammed its your fault. nothing anyone can do about it. 1bil is a lot of money in sro. if he earned it legitly, kudos to him.
but then again, if he had been playing long enough to acquire 1bil without buying or anything, im sure he would know what a gm was, autistic or not. they post notices somewhat frequently about items and whatnot.
so pretty much all you can do from this is learn from it. dont trust people. in my opinion, especially not people with names like kaancigim from a guild called istanbul. but those are just my prejudices.

oh and saying "Listen, unless you are utterly retarded" doesnt really help your cause much.
