Full bard?

Post by Perseus »

Bards seem to be in high demand right now, hence I created a level 2X bard with no submastery. I almost never have to solo because most parties can't seem to get enough of bards, even parties whose members are like 10 levels higher than me.

However, I just learned that most people only get bard skills as submastery for the moving march skill.

Should I de-level bard skills and get something else, in case I have to solo? I would also like to be good at PVP too, and so far my bard seems to do decent against other builds at my level. However, I think bards will do poorly against other builds in high levels. If I really have to change, what submastery should I get?

Hmm, I would get cleric skills too. Then parties 20+ levels higher won't be able to keep their hands off you :P

I've heard cleric's are semi decent soloing (I mean they can heal themselves). I've also heard they are quite annoying to your opponent in PvP if you play them right and they are great for jobbing parties but you'll be the first one attacked most likely.

Get bard for the buffs and attacks if you want to keep that as your main mastery since it does deal quite a bit of damage and can "de-aggro" mobs.

If you choose what I said above, just get cleric for the healing buffs.

Hope you found that useful. Guys, please correct me if I'm wrong

Comments from someone that restarted on mars....

By level 50 the number of legit players that will actually party and know what the hell they are doing will be dismally small. You best be prepared to solo at least for quests, be taxied or make a character that can lead a party successfully (pure bard will fail in most cases).

Consider pure bard in pvp *laughs*

Make another character OR at least sub wizard. Forget the Bard/Cleric and Cleric/Bard BS unless you want taxied after 50 or you have a perfect set of legit euro characters played by game friends.

Unless this guy has played a bard to the max I wouldn't take his word for it.

You're right about the PVP situation as levels grow higher; skills for bards don't really improve as you get higher. More tambours, more dances (and many parties only have 1 bard anyways, blah). The other classes gain something powerful offense- or defense-wise as early as 30+, like Turnover, Stealth, and the 40+ Offering.

For kicks and giggles, bards have an easier time fighting with wizards. Both classes have similar magical defense, and at the same level, the bard "possibly" has enough juice to eliminate the wizard's. Perhaps a 1-2 with Horror Chord and the quick Tuning Noise. Conversely, if his cast finishes before yours, your death is probably assured, Mana Tambour unconsidered.
