You start on a new server with a friend. You decide right from the beginning to make a 1:2 hybrid spear chi char, allocating 1 point of str, and 2 points to int at every level. After 2 days of playing silkroad your friend found a sosun spear lvl 24, lucky drop from a chakji.
You: Gratz dude. Friend: Weeeeeeeeeeee. You: Hey, you know I can use that right? Friend: You: How about pvping for it? Friend: Whats in it for me? You: Well, I'll do your homework for a week if you win. If I win, I'll get that spear off you. Best of 3 rounds, cape fight. Friend: Ok .
So there you are standing at Jangan south gate wearing a cape. Your char has the following stats: Char lvl 24, sp 1593, no silk purchased Masteries: Heuksal 20 ...Soul spear move lvl4 ...Ghost spear petal lvl1 ...Cheolsam force lvl2 Lightning 20 ...Thundertiger force lvl8 ...Grasswalk flow lvl3 ...Shock lion shout lvl2 ...Heaven's force lvl2 Equips: 16 npc spear with full garms, 19 head, 21 chest, 20 legs, 17 shoulders, 24 hands, 18 foot, 24 rings x2, 18 earrings, 20 necklace, all from npc items. Gold: 120235 Inventory: you have nothing in inventory, nothing in storage.
Your friend: Lvl 24 pure str fire/heuksal using npc items, no silk purchase. To be fair, he wont use the sosun spear, but a lvl 24 glaive instead.
Problem: since it is a new server, no one has put up any stalls in any city.
Pvp rules and etiquette: No pots allowed Best 2 of 3 You have to start as soon as possible, so you do not have time to grind (you could however make a quick run to dw if you choose to do so) You are at Jangan, and the pvp will take place in Jangan. No silk items will be used. No help from any other player allowed, for gold, or otherwise.
You want the best possible chance to win this pvp. What would you do with the resources that you have?
Note: I'll post the solution after a week, unless someone comes up with it before that time

Hmm sry but probably your friend will win this challange. Many reasons for that but the important ones:
- Your friend has lvl 24 full str char (if im not wrong this mean approx. 112 STR and 44 INT without any additional STR or INT from the items) and you r a lvl 24 1:2 hybrid char (again if im not wrong you have approx. 66 STR and 89 INT without any additional STR or INT from the items). If 1 STR gives 10 HP so your friend has 460 HP more than you.
- Hybrid chars have a nuke advantage but you dont have that advantage cuz nuke skills open at lvl 30.
If you buy protectors, a high crit lvl 24 spear and improve your attack and assist skills may be you can have a chance to win this challange. Otherwise im sry but you better to prepare to study your friend's homeworks.
Some very good points raised. Just recheck if you have enough gold to buy the equipments you guys brought up >,^. Oh, and you cant farm or grind for mor sp and gold.
@asc good point, you could always simulate the pvp ^^.
Well since your friends would let you do his homework that must mean your smarter than him. Thus knowing how to set up your pc better! And since Sro lags if you dont have a kick ass PC. He will get more lag then you and not be able to cast his skills as well so YOU WIN!
....Get bow skills, buy a lvl 24 bow and protector set. I think the weapons are 24k so I would get both bow and spear and the rest would be enough for tp to DW and getting some larger portions. If you run out of cash, just die to get back to jangan.
I am too lazy to calculate the sp needed for level 20 pacheon and cold skills, but I would get at least the cold imbue, ice wall and guard of ice, pretty sure 1.5k would get you level 24 cold imbue and level 24 pacheon skills...
1. Ice wall for the first 2 hits
2. Long range 2 combo + cold imbue
3. wave arrow
3. Switch to spear
4. Stun
5. Spin
6. Stab
7. Run
8. Repeat
I used to use this way back when I made my first char, which was actually pure int bow. I didn't even need to switch weapons since they were dead after the third hit, which was autumn wind or whatever, or if not, after the next combo. Used to take 2 on 1s quite easily like this.
Just zerking and killing him is the most efficient. Zerk last long enough for you to kill him twice.
Or
Buy a 24 spear and level 24 jewelry. Just use lion shout and run with grasswalk until you think he is weak. Then finish him with a ghost spear.
Or
Hopefully you did some quest that gave you a scroll that increases your damage by 20%
Or
Log off and tell him you got dced and couldn't get back in.
Or
Tell him you have to buy better gear in DW. After you buy the gear you don't have enough gold to teleport to Jangan. Convince him to come to DW and aggro earth ghosts onto him in the middle of the fight.

very easy and inexpensive
you dont have the power of gold to make your gear good
but for 40k you can buy 50 x-large potions
and that would make you imposible to kil at that lvl
there for you will have more chance to kill your oponent
easy and cheap solution at those lvls

If theres any sp left, might as well go for the illusion chain, at that lvl it's pretty strong. Then buy a sword and shield. Start attacking with range attacks (LS and SC) then when he comes to you, use kd and stab. when he gets up switch to spear and ghost spear his ass. ( if kd doesnt work, use a illusion chain instead of stab then ghost spear.) The shield will provide extra defense and a chance to block.
use your remaining sp to upgrade ice and healing to the highest it can go.
use gold to buy better npc gear starting with the more important gear such as chest,legs,head and so forth.
in battle use ice untill frozen or slowed then switch to fire/lighting (whatever the main force is) and use spear attacks untill unfrozen then refreeze and repeat, unless you get below 50% health (or around this area) and use a heal skill or yourself, and continue, i think this would be the most effective.
why dont u get force and heal when he attacks u
he will run out of mp and u will be able to kill him very easy
use one inblue each attack, starting with ice, then fire, then light
use shield and sword to have better defence

there are many ways going about this because the hits you get on the guy will vary with luck, sometimes you can hit him in couple hits with some crits and other times you will die
I really wanted to make the puzzle scream to be solved in a certain way... only to mislead .
1. Know your opponent: you are able to set the terms of engagement. The prize for you winning is greater than the prize of you loosing. exality pointed out that your friend isnt as bright as you. You could intepret this also by many ways: he doesnt value the sosun as much as you, doesnt have the same priority as you (cares more about schoolwork) and is not as motivated as you to win this badly.
2. Being able to set the rules for engagement: This is a very important lesson. Players rarely see what you can or cannot do. Zerk was well suggested by Da_realest, and would give you at least one guaranteed round one win. Ingame similarities: BrotherS vs Aftermath, we set the guild war to give enough time for our members to do the ivy quest (for zerk scrolls). On the day of the war, almost all our members (BrotherS) had the scrolls, compared to only 1or2 of Aftermath.
3. You cant use mp pots either . Many suggested using force for self healing. This is also a good idea by the fact that we cannot use mp pots, so just tank the hits and self heal, then attack back. The problem is you can run out of mp too yourself. Even being 1:2 hybrid wont be nearly enough to absorb all the hits, and having enough mp to fight back. So this isnt ideal.
4. Use of ice. Well picked up by many of you. Ice is the best in this situation, for pvp at this level. No one is immune this early in the server. The damage is decent (hardly noticable to fire imbue), and the chance of freeze, frostbite from imbue alone is significant to lower the number of hits that will hit you by slowing your opponent. This is called winning in tempo. Also nobody picked up the use of cold wave attack series, 100% frostbite hit. Start out with this skill, and spam your strongest attacks right after.
5. Use of pacheon. Very well picked up by torinchibi. Distance is defense by itself. Coupled with ice and you're already winning.
6. Equips and the limitation of gold and sp. I wanted the puzzle to be so players will go ingame to dw, and check the prices of items There is a reason why the gold had a weird amount, and the sp as well. If you sold all your garms and lvl 16 spear to npc, you will have enough gold to buy a 24 spear with armor set, and only 500 gold left over to use the ferry to get there, but not back. The trick is as torinchibi pointed out, is to die and resurrect back to jangan, or you could die in cape at dw, then relogin (you will start in jangan). The trick here, is that you will be mislead to buy spear. It isnt a bad option mind you, but bow skills will work better for the pvp. Equips wont matter as much, just get a full armor or prot set, w/e the level your gold could buy.
What I learn from this puzzle thread: users will read from one another, so it is really quick to come up with the solution xD. Maybe I'll make a harder one next time, and get you all to post me your solutions or even throw in a prize or two.
