At lvl 10 onwards it wont matter as much. You could save gold and go with armor/prot, whatever you find as drops. Most monsters you meet will hit phy damage up to lvl 30 (earth mages) where switching to prot or garms would be better. The higher level you go, the more important for a pure str blader to switch to garms.
Edit: This also applies to pure str glaives.
When you should switch depends. I usually would either wear full prot or garms by the time I get to hotan, where spiders and soon ishade would become a problem (magic damage).
Note: Feel free to post questions, it's what this forum is for >,^

Pure str chi chars. I had a pure str glaive to 48 and I stuck to full prot. Did just fine to mujigis.

Oh no. Was answering this thread. My bad, misread your question xD (its ok to start a separate thread should you wish to ask something off topic).
If full int chi, try to stick with full armor. Once you get your nukes at 30, you'll be one nuke-shout-shout most mobs, so you can stay armor until you get to 6x, where it depends what you are comfortable with. I went with garms at 64, training in caves for my s/s pure int. I had ice masteries with ice imbue, ran faster than other players there so I rarely got ksed, and could tank an earth ghost warrior giant, with two other minions with ice nova easily
You can stick with armor all the way, and you cant go wrong with pure int.

At 65 I went to nachals with full garms. But that was my plan though.

Woots, thanks once again.

While what is said above sounds completely logical I could also make a perfectly good argument to do the opposite
The important thing is to know what the pros and cons are of the different kinds of gear. You really can't go wrong, it just might not fit your playing style perfectly.

+1, also it wont matter as much for low lvs. probably armor/prot or mix it up cause most low lv mobs hav physical att. just be clear on wat ur friends char's skills and the stats he put in. pure balder go pure str. so go for fire and bicheon. those r main trees and subs he can chose. i suggest ice or lightning
boyaka boyaka.

Pure str heuksal and fire max all the time. Just get some lightning masteries for grass walk, very important initially so you could race out and get ksed less (up to you to either max it, or keep it at 60). All other masteries is up to you, you cant go wrong with this.
