Just sad lol....

The biggest problem with bots (apart from all the slots they take up) is that they don't play nice like humans play (well most humans anyway :|). Even the ones with KS off are still painful to grind near.

Someone getting a free legit account is not KSing everything in sight and illegally taking up slots on crowded servers.

Wait, what was ur point?

I ks when I grind and most botter have premium so they pay for their slot.

OP is right about it you guy are kinda hypocrite

paying for your slot has nothing to do with it ... what is wrong with u idiots? ....... I paid for my marijuana, but the cops still took it !!!! wtf!!!11!

Guys, you're all missing my point, I'm not comparing botting with giving away an acc, but if soo many people think botting is unfair against those who level their own acc the legit way, isn't giving away an account also unfair against them ?

An idea could be to allow players the option of "reporting" a bot in game. Players accused of botting have a short time to respond to an image verification message similar to signing on ... if they do so, they are exempt from any further checks for a period (perhaps 30 minutes or an hour). If they do not respond within a short period (perhaps 5 minutes) they are logged off the game, reducing lag and freeing up slots.

Perhaps even better would be that any player who does not respond within 5 minutes gets "Murderer" status, and is now free game for anyone to attack them and kill them. The status is only reset upon paying a fine (100 million gold perhaps?) to the Hunters Guild or by signing off and signing on again through the image verification process.

OMG You should be a GM and i think Giving accounts away should not be allowed, but i always see globals in-game for Selling accounts :|

have you ever watched a noob try to play a high level account?

perhaps not, however, here's two reasons why one is better than the other:

1. giving away an account does not introduce bots to the server
2. see #1

botting is not only unfair, it is unfair _and_ ruining this game. Getting a free account is simply lame, _BIG_ difference.

main problem with bots, its not people lvling fast to cap...

the real BIG problem is the gold bots, and all innerent problems that arise with them:

- servers crowded constantly / impossibility to log in
- ruined economy / price inflation
- ksing
- spam
- ...

no one who plays the game just to have fun has a real problem with people getting high lvl without effort... i wouldn't even care about people buying gold, except it fuels the gold farming companies...

For me personally, it is not the "cheater" who bots that is the problem, it is the hoard of gold bots that are choking the system and causing serious balance problems in the game. If you chose to buy an account that is already lvl 80 or use a bot to get you there in a few weeks, that is really on your conscience and I suspect your interest is likley to wane rather fast, having taken such a drastic short cut to the top. Things not earned are generally despised, and it will not be long before this game is boring to you and you will be trying to cheat on another game.

As a female friend of mine likes to say, "once a cheater, always a cheater". Of course, she is speaking about Men (not Me, BTW) but I think it is valid in all aspects of life. If you are always looking for the short cuts and willing to cheat to achieve your goals, then what does that really say about your character as a person?

The only thing to justify (and it is weak at best) giving away an account over botting, is that the SRO Terms of Service agreement does give tacit approval for account sharing so long as YOU take responsibility for the results. If this means your big brother decides he wants to start new characters and gives you his old ones, then no problem, so long as your big brother does not go balistic when he sees you selling His hard earned Degree 8 SOS armour for 50k.

SRO simply states that you are responsible for everything that happens to your account, so if it is hacked, it is your fault, plain and simple. If you try to get your armour back by saying "someone, (not my idiot brother) took all my SOS armour and sold it," they are simply going to say, "too bad." Your account is your responsibility, even if you were hacked or duped or just stupid.

Where the line is drawn, however, is in the SALE of an account. This is a breach of Civil Law, as the contents of your account are the Intellectual Property of JOYMAX, and as such cannot legally be sold except with their consent. And I think it will be pretty hard to get them to consent to you making money from their system and software.

Finally, when an account is shared/traded, it is still only one account. It does not put the additional load on the server that a gold bot does. The gold bots however get to 80th lvl and simply grind constantly generating as much gold as they can, selling everything they can to the NPCs. This stresses the game, reducing the amount of interesting stuff that is availaible in the stalls and practically choking out anyone new who might like to come to the community and add to it.

In one of the forums I read about a sniffer program that looked at the 3000 or so players that were signed on, and the program found that around 80% of them were behaving in a predictable fashion (not chaotic) and were likely bots (or extremely talented and consistent humans). From my own experience, I would say that of that 80%, as much as 90% of them are gold bots, leaving the "cheaters" that use bots for levelling at about 8% of all signed on players. The remaining 12% are legit players and players in stalls (no telling what they are when they leave the stall).

Even if the pro-bot and anti-bot communities completely came together and decided to eliminate bots, they would stil be collectively facing a throng of 3 to 5 times as many characters, all just collecting gold for resellers.

So, want to trade/sell/give away your account? Be my guest. Like CareBear says, it is just lame, whereas the bots and botting that happens 24/7 by thousands of characters on each server .... THAT is the problem.

Good Luck!

I'm against bots because it violates the T.O.S, clogs the servers, ruins the game for others that earn their respective levels, and it works to screw the game's economy.

As far as giving away an account, it's a question of etiquette. More players would respect that account holder if they know that person did all the work and didn't show up at the finish line and say 'here I am!' - Items are another issue...if you want to be Robin Hood, by all means, go to town and drop gold and equips and whatever else, but don't give away your account. Let it rest in peace. The whole point of the game is to experience it firsthand.

To sum it up...botting is illegal, which makes it unfair. Giving away an account is only lame, but still unfair.

I can understand people complaining about others receiving free high level characters that other people grinded (or botted) because it's just a free way to become instantly high level, as in it's "unfair" to others that work for the level...

However, I don't see much wrong with accepting a high level character from someone that doesn't want to use it anymore. I wouldn't want to take a high level character from someone else and use it as my main, but it's a good way to test out different builds.

I'm a pure str blader. I've spent quite a while getting to lvl 51, around a year and a half. I'd hate to have to grind another character to lvl 50 to just try out another build and find out I hate it. It'd be nice to try out a character to see what it's like before actually taking the time to grind one up yourself.

I just know I wouldn't want to take another char as my main and be stuck with someone else's name and reputation, etc.

well i mean begging for an account is different from botting an account. Its true that both require no effort on your part. But if you bot you are guaranteed a high level account not to mention your bot sits in the server taking up space. now imagine if lots of people were botting (they do) and then the servers would be crowded (they are). However if you are given a high level account that is just 1 person...and that one character which has just exchanged hands sits in the server...by giving away an account you don't create more characters...it just switches who controls that character.

now that was from a completely practical standpoints. there are other reasons why botting and begging for a character are different.

i don't endorse one view over another, i'm just trying to clarify why its is a weak connection

yes they do, but they actually play which already means they deserve it more than a botter.

i mean a game exists to be played why would people who don't play be given a server spot over a person who actually plays.

also brings up multiclient. which means that some may take up more than one space even for botting. a legit can never take up more than one space, unless stalling. ie 2 computers. now imagine botter with 2 comps...he could be running 4 or more accnts at once.

Well I think any flame topic ends up locked not just bot flames. By all means, flame botters in PM, but I think flaming in public, bot-flame or not, just brings down the whole atmosphere of the community.

I do not support botting in any way shape or form, but even botters CAN have a positive contribution to these forums. They are people too. If it's discovered they bot, maybe SG or someone will ban them, but in the meantime, there's not much point in flaming.

Why's it so important to be legit when all it takes is 9999 hours and $999?

It's a GAME, if JoyMax isn't doing their part then you shouldn't give a damn about respecting their rules either...what good are rules and TOS when they aren't upheld? You want an analogy? You get into a fight and your opponent whips out a AUTOMATIC gun and the referee is counting his money and you cry "UNFAIR UNFAIR & TOS VIOLATION" and continue to battle it out barehanded...but you survive, have trouble getting back into the game, pay expensive hospital fees, and then eventually jump back into the usual routine.

There comes a point when it just becomes stupid...

I feel for the legitmates but enough is enough. Every complaint, gripe, and report was made years ago. History repeats itself. Don't get caught up in it.

Some rules are broken all the time. Botting being against the TOS and whatever else is one of the weakest arguments ever in a game. So many people break the media sharing LAWS (screw rules, these are LAWS), downloading MP3s, movies, porn, games, etc etc. Also, I think sharing accounts as well as giving away accounts are prohibited just as the "free accounts" topics are doing. Then there is silk buying for others, gold selling, etc etc the list goes on and on.

The biggest problem with botting in any competitive game is that it is extremely unfair when people go up against bots (1 person running 50 computers) you will always lose.

The difference with SRO is that in some games the company actually tries to curb botting to an effect.

I see your point, but I choose not to stoop to the level of a botter out of principle. If I ever feel I "need" to bot just to keep up in the game, I'll just quit. I feel no need to cheat or break the rules just to get ahead, regardless of if Joymax enforces rules or not.

Cheating is cheating, and I don't have any desire to do it. It's just a game. It's not that important to be "the best" in this game. I'd rather the satisfaction knowing I stayed clean and did the best I could with my character as opposed to afk botting 24/7, or plvling afk, up to lvl 80 then trying to actually play a character I really know little to nothing about.
