Bard... BARD?

Post by FluxFire »

Ok guys, at the risk of being flamed. Is there any freaking point at being a bard in this game? I mean, most of my exp gain is done soloing with my cleric, I got immense healing and firepower, it allows me to take on giants 5 levels above me. My problem is, I decided to start a bard again (I use to have a bard in cSRO), but man, low defense, low fire output, I can barely take on giants THREE levels bellow me let alone even dare take a giant my level.

What's the point then? Who's gona be a bard? I mean, it's not like I see a ton of them, maybe one per 50-100 players I see during a playing time.

Sure, kickass noise and speed, gota love those, I use them all the time with my cleric, but...... I mean what gives?

bards become powerfull later on, still they don't have the fire power of a wizzard, or healing of a cleric, but they can hold their own

they are very usefull to have in a party, but to be max effective the party really needs 2 bards, so you do both a tambour and a dance, major reduce on damage taken, increases damage dished out, they were deseigned as a support class, but can hold their own solo, and in pvp

TBH, with this new wave of powerleveling, all support class are allmost wotless. In the other hand, if you have the patience to look for (and find of course) a balanced party, Bard has his own role to play, and can shine like every other class out there.

But rigth now, those with Bard main, have 2 choices, Jump into the powerlevel train, or be bored to death.

Yeah I understand in a party, but my question is alone, soloing, it looks like bard is probably the only one stuck not being able to solo much.

Ever played a wizard in a hard core grind party constantly spamming your nukes and blasting party mobs to bits? Ever run so low on mana that mana pots can't keep up and you have to sit and wait to be able to cast again?

I have.

There are only about 3 things you need in a party
1. Tank
2. Damage Dealer
3. Healer

Bard doesn't fit into any of those categories well. They are very situational meaning there are only a few certain instances where they really shine. Which is why most parties can do just fine without them.

I leveled a bard up to 30 and notice that there were very few moments were I affected the battle much. All I really did was throw mana heals even though most people had auto pot on and would just heal their own mp.

It's basically a support class that can't really support itself so it needs a party to do anything.

Only good thing about it was that I could Alt Tab out for a while and no one would ever notice ^^

If bards could use that Dance Buff Class alone then they would probably be more noticeable.

Its a thankless job that doesn't even really need thanks =/

P.S. remember I've only played one up to lvl 30 so I don't know if the experience changes after that.

well im lvl 74 cleric and this may be the last lvl that i get powerlvled but i have also did that niya archer quest at this lvl, soloing with a cleric really sucked the dmg is low (except for offering) and the skills ( trial cross justice cross overheal) are just too dang slow that even a blader can ks a cleric, since bard was my subclass, i use bard skills (horror chord, wierd chord)for killing white mobs, the skills do about the same shitty cleric dmg but are much quicker and with a wolf you will be killing mobs pretty quickly and easily, the bard's booming chord does as much dmg as a chinese nuke however unlike chinese nukes it has very short 8m range, so i would be clicking on the mob with booming chord yet the mob is not getting hit becos i was standing too far, so a pretty useless skill in my opinion.
but just dont try to solo a pt mob or giant with a bard, in that aspect a cleric is much better.

So... all in all.. the bard is pretty much a failure I gather.

Can't really do much alone, doesn't do all that much in a PT as I do agree people simply use autopots with the correct pot size, bards aren't that useful.

But all these builds must be able to solo.

As far as I am concerned, JM totally screwed up Europe by not having totally dedicated zones for euro monsters from level 1 to level 80. Saying that chinese builds should pt with euro build which is bulshit because china builds ddon't need clerics at all, in fact my str and int buffs are totally useless to a china build. As for bards, what the hell, useless alone, so so useful in a pt.

Really, there is MUCH work to be done here because I don't view euro update as being much of a success story so far.

wow...how about someone who actually played bard to a high lvl tell you how awesome bard is. Right now my bard is lvl 56, and my dmg mayb not be as high as a wizard but its high enough to solo easily.

And bards ALWAYS have a part in any euro pt grind. With their dmg reduce buff, its like adding +45 to every single one of your accesories. If you have 2 bards, you have phys and mag dmg reduce, and one dmg increase buff phys or mag. Right now my dmg reduce buffs absorb 29% dmg, and my dmg increase buff increase phys or mag dmg by 22%. You say we're useless?

a euro pt with 2 bards is so much stronger than one without them. There is a huge difference with and without bard buffs, people just underestimate them. Its all about int and str buffs...but i think increasing your dmg by 34% at lvl 80 is just as good, if not better.

Thats my point, by example a Rogue can use Xbow Extreme and get 97% Dmg increase (75% + 22%)but Def only (40% - 29%)11% reduced, its life of course keep the pennalty, with DD get also 97% more Dmg, and his defense pennalty go from 75% to 46%.

You are all completely off your rocker. You try and put bard in a damage category. The bard is to mana what the cleric is to health. In a raging party that is just destroying mobs your mana pots can't keep up (euro). Along with their party defensive skills bards can also keep everyone full of mana, thus you have no pauses, no deaths due to running out of mana, etc.

Are bards required? No.

Do bards make super fast grinding possible? Yes.

All you really need in a party is:

S/S war
Cleric
Wizard

Multiply that to fill out your party. However you will have mana issues if you grind at max speed.

bard is a subclass, so obviously you don't fight with it. for example rogue and bard as a sub, obviously you would fight with the rogue.

are you telling me that your fighting with a bard..? because i seriously do not see anyone with bard as there fighter because it stupid.

.....Bard cannot shine too well in a party when you are killing low lvl or same level mobs, but because of the absorbtion abilities it's really useful if the party kills monsters that are higher level. You can also run away from them, which always seems to save my life when a bard is around.

They solo as well as a cleric, except for the whole giant killing deal.

Bards are support characters, not damage dealers, not tankers. In a party, they are the character that will protect the other int based classes from getting attacked by using their aggro absorbtion skills, and they also heal the wizard MP, which runs out super fast if you have a warrior tanking 3-4 party mobs and you have to keep using aoe spells.

Later on, in wars and sieges bards will make a significant difference, they can attack pretty fast, have AoE attacks that are as powerful as some wizard attacks and cast faster....I don't understand why the Bard class was hated enough by programmers to make them unable to use their skills alone though, I find that ridiculous. Bards should be able to dance and tambour at the same time without a need of another bard. Not many parties get 2 bards just for the 1 extra buff.
