Well this is the English language we're speaking of. This language doesn't define objects with a gender. A pair of wings is not male, nor is it female. The pair of wings can be made for men or made for women. Just like you could have a "men's suit" or a "women's suit". The suit isn't female, it's a woman's suit. Women's wings, not female wings.
Other languages like Spanish for example, assign gender to objects. So you'd have "la escuela" or "el coche".
