don't get macs.

neways, manage ur time. if u let ur grades slip early, u'll have a hard time getting them back up. so make sure u have enough time for hw/studying. so go to class and do ur work. u get that down, and college is a piece of cake.

other than that, have fun.

If you're living off campus make sure you go to all the frosh week activities.

Bring your laptop, but after the first few classes you'll realize it's more of a hassle. The laptop is a study tool, not a note taker.

Depending on your type of classes, you might not even need to take notes at all. For my history class I just keep writing, and I have to read all the assigned lectures. For my arts (economics, management, etc.) I just need to show up to class to listen, and download the used powerpoint slides online for review. For my science classes, prereading the material, listening to the prof, downloading the slides, and reviewing the material immediately after seems to work for me.

Basically, you will not need to take too many notes. You can use a laptop to follow the prof's presentation if you have bad eyes, but it's not really required.

Oh, and always bring a sweater. You never know when it's going to rain or get cold. Water bottle is good as well, when you need to sit through a 3 hour lecture and you get thirsty, it's torture.

For class work: office software, etc. I've found macs to be much better.

Our university has a mac store on campus. and all the staff always suggests we get one.

Actually go to the classes, no matter how crappy you feel. I almost let my grades go to hell after skipping most my World History and Culture class and only reading the textbook, works but the teacher will prepare you for tests so much better and give you a new perspective.
