[Tutorial] Pen-tool tut (simple)

Post by cin »

K well i was busy for the AC Teams a little.. n while doing that, i kindof
"mastered" the pen tool. ok, this guide is probably not complete, theres
probably tons o more possibilities with the pen-tool, but anywho, this is
what i found out when i was fooling around with it. i kept it simple ;)

pen tool:

pen tool settings:

now, use pen tool to draw lines. you can click to make new points, and you
can click on part of the line to put a point between two current points. with
CTRL+click, you can move the points and change the way they flow over to
the other points. you'll find out when you workin with it ;) make sure that in
the end, you link your end point to your start point by clicking your last point
on top of the starting point. you will have a shape like this:

after that, you can either stroke or fill the path you made. go to paths:

now, rightclick the path. you will see the following:

choose for "Fill Path..."
now you can fool around a bit with color/opac/etc. ;)

if you want to stroke it, with this settings it will stroke with the brush you
currently use. so to stroke it, do the same thing. with that, you can fool
around a bit by for example simulating pressure so you get a line that
goes from thin to thick :)

if anybody got any additions, needs more pics to clear things up, or whatever..
just let me know in this topic or over pm ;) i hoped this helped a little.

nice start there cin :)

holding alt will allow you to manipulate the directional control arm, as well as the arc control arm without leaving your pen tool.

you can right click after closing a selection and choose "make selection" then paint in what you want to, or select edit:fill or edit:stroke. I like this method best because its more flexible than making a new shape layer etc, I like generic layers for my new selections.
