Hi everyone, currently I am using PS CS1 and i feel a bit software wise behind. I am thinking of upgrading to CS3 extended. I wanted to know your opinions if I should upgrade and should I get the program the legit way or the 1337 H4X0R way?
I'm going to bed so i won't check this thread until tomorrow.
Not sure about CS1 since I never used Photoshop before CS2 was out, but the difference between CS2 & CS3 is minimal... not sure if it's more so between CS1 & CS3.

I <3 CS. If you use more than photoshop (eg: flash, photoshop, stocks) it's much better because everything is integrated. However, if you're only using photoshop; sticking to cs1 or cs2 would be better.

Get out of your basement doing sigs, into either a professional role or graphic design education and photoshop will be required.
GIMP is fine if all you're going to be doing is playing with layer styles, brushes, and premade renders. If you want a program that allows you to realise a high calibre design potential then adobe's suite is mandatory.
They're the same thing and i probably wont get into any professional sig making so no worries.(I've used photoshop so I know the difference and similarities)Plus I dont want to spend like 300$ until I get a good job.
lol @ professional sig making. That's not what I meant.
Also, CS3's main selling point/advantage if the way its components work together. You would need to buy the suite, which is $1,799.99; not $300.
By stating you don't want to spend $300 until you get a job, you're suggesting that when you get a job you would spend $300 for photoshop. With that statement you just said that photoshop is better than gimp.

what does cs stand for? can anyone point me towards *yarrrr* cs2?
Creative Suite. If you get creative on your way of obtaining the program, I suggest getting CS3. Maybe sure you get a copy that is the WHOLE SUITE, and not just the seperate programs zipped together.
