Wizard/Warrior

Post by Pyrilampes »

Dear reader,

Do you think it is at all viable for a Wizard to choose Warrior as his or her secondary class?

I am interested in combining the Wizard's close-range and powerful Earth spells with the defensive capabilities of the Warrior. The three skills that stand out the most are Taunting Target, Iron Skin and Mana Skin. I am considering steering away from the cookie-cutter pure STR/INT builds and making use of both, either 50/50 or 25/75 STR/INT. Why? Because STR adds HP and Defence to help me survive whilst in close-combat.

What are your thoughts?

Euro builds should be pure, since you won't benefit from any additional damage from the other build. Since your primary is wizard, you want to go pure INT. What you gain by adding STR points, you lose with less intense nukes...and it's doubtful that the extra hp is going to outweigh the decreased damage you'll deal. You'll get eaten alive by other wizards, and not have enough hp to tank pure str builds. With Chinese, you could go hybrid, because the weapons have both classes of damage, but hybrid in Euro is not a good idea because you only deal one type of damage on an attack.

Totally up to you tho...everything's so new, so who knows? Give it a shot and see what happens :)

However, you're ignoring the defensive style of play and embracing offence. I'd rather be slightly less powerful but able to survive for longer rather than having strong spells but not being able to survive three or more hits.

If I choose Warrior as my secondary class, not only will I have access to the three skills mentioned above but I'd be able to wear Heavy Armour, which will greatly increase my defence.

Is anyone else following a similiar path with their Wizard?

I am also debating which sub-class I should choose for my wizard.

The one thing I keep in mind is that with the party play system in European characters, the wizard's role is to deal as much damage as possible. For me, that is my first priority, as I trust the tankers to do their job. To that end, I will keep my wizard pure INT.

Getting a sub-class that uses light or heavy armor sounds like a good idea, especially if you can find armor with blues that increase STR. However, I would strongly advise against putting points you get from each level into STR.

Uhmm... It's viable... Only benefit you get from this though is that you'd be able to wear Heavy Armor. So a wizard on Heavy armor with warrior passive/active skills...

Though, it's not very benefitial to you being an Int class... AND HYBRIDING is a nono you'd just be completely gimping yourself. Unlike say, going for Cleric/Bard/Warlock class, with pure int.

I strongly suggest you to look more into Cleric/Bard sub as a wizard...
