1. the old topic got several pages long, and then really old, so it lost the effect it was supposed to have on the SRF members, being that it was ment to get people to log into ventrilo.
2. I wanted to make sort of a "guide" to help newbs figure out how to log into vent, from start to finish
first, go to http://www.ventrilo.com, once there you will see:
click on the option circled in RED
scroll down a LITTLE and you will see:
again, click on the one circled in RED
it will give you an option to Run Save or Cancel, hit RUN, it will then start to download, you will then get some kind of security warning, ignore it, and press Run.
it will then install, use common sence and choose the corect install options, then run the program (it will put an icon on your desktop)
your now ready to log in, when you open vent you will see this:
you will notice the 3 boxes I circled in red, click on the first one, you will see this:
like I circled in RED press New, and create your name, example: Toku, hit OK, then press cancel, you will then be at the main ventrilo window, press the box circled in red UNDER the one you just clicked, you will see:
there are 4 things I circled, first, the one in RED (New) press it, and name it anything you want, example: SRF, the one below that, Hostname or IP, there you will type: twist4.nrgservers.net
under that, circled in PINK, is the Port Number, there type: 3533
under that, circled in GREEN, is Password, ignore that for the SRF vent server, but other people might require you to have a password, thats where you type it, when your through with all that, press OK, and you will be back at the main ventrilo window, press Connect, on the right hand side, and you will be in our happy ventrilo community

EDIT: okay, how to push-to-talk
notice the button circled in RED, press it you will see this:
first, the box at the top circled in RED, make sure its checked
below that, click in that other circled RED box, and press what hotkey you want to use, hit OK and your done, just push that key when you want to say somthing, you will also notice to the right "outbound" and "inbound" if things are too noisy, turn down your inbound, if people complain about your being too loud, turn your outbound down
also, I am adding how to do binds, after several requests, go to the main ventrilo window, you will see this box circled in RED, click it:
after you click it you will see this:
first, the box circled in RED, press it, name the bind anything you want, then notice the stuff circled in blue, that is the KIND of bind, first, there is function, the only 2 that people ever use is Push-to-talk, Advanced, and Text-to-speech, lets do push to talk advanced, below that you will see Transmit Style, click that, and there will be a list, Channel, Channel and all sub channels, user to user, and current channel, if you choose channel, it will transmit to any channel you select (see below), if you choose channel and all sub channels, it will transmit to the selected channel, and all channels within that channel, if you choose user-to-user, it will transmit ONLY to the users you select (handy for private conversations) and if you choose current channel, it will transmit to the channel your in, now, lets assume you choose user-to-user, select that in the Transmit style (second box circled in blue) then below that, click the [...] you will see this:
simply select the persons name and hit the Add button, circled in RED, then hit OK, then you will finally notice the boxes circled in GREEN, click on the blank space, and then press the hotkey you want to use, and press Add, hit OK and you will return to the main ventrilo window, go up to the bindings list and select your newly created bind in the selection box, and press your selected hotkey to use it!
