lol komt die duitser hier wat zegge waar we op lijken, hoeven we over hem niet te beginnen :roll:

ik woon 2 minute van de duitse grens en ik zal je is wat zegge,

als een duitser me de weg vraagt (gebeurt redelijk vaak, kasteel hier in de buurt met hotelkamers/restaurant etc.) dan praten ze

1) duits, ze doen geen enkele moeite om engels of nederlands, nope, gwn voluit duits

2) ik doe mijn BEST om in het duits te antwoorden, ik haat duits, kuttaal serieus,

3) en dan durve ze te zegge dat mijn duits zuigt..jah echt ze zegge dat gwn, dein deutsch ist slecht junge, of dein deutsch ist scheiss

mja dan zeg k gwn "immer grade aus und um die ecke kannse verrekke" xD

About your little story about bad bad people over here: There are ignorant people in every country, and don't you think you could take it as a compliment towards your skills that they directly confront you with a foreign language?

Ok, not being serious... but NL's dimension of "language education" is alot different from GER's ... English doesn't have the weight it might have for you here, and I think the places one can learn dutch at school or something here are pretty limited.

My country mates are often like the USAliens: One language, use it everywhere

And tbh I hate it too when being with foreigners and friends, and friends have nothing better to do than blab their own language and let foreigners stand in the rain... (while in your case you understand it though, it's still pretty rude)

So yeah, I think just because of the education you receive, your propability of being able to speak german is 100x higher than our propability of being able to speak dutch :O ...

Oh and btw, don't take my comment on that video too serious ... it actually is pretty funny, but that guy looks horrible

jah precies hetzeflde als hier bij mij, ik woon net onder roermond, midden limburg en ik zweer het je die mensen zijn achterlijker dan een stoeptegel. Soms vragen ze me idd de weg naar de coffeeshop in roermond haha

Oh and MonstaH, i can't stand it if, for example, im selling something in sro and a german just starts talking away in german.. i just cant understand that, it pisses me off. They are too lazy to speak english.

not like it's our fault we get like, 7 different languages in school.. and if i'm right those bloody mofs have got at least 3 languages which contain french and english.
here in holland we get
Dutch, english, french, german, latin, greek and spanish.
which all depend on which niveau you do...
even the lowest classes get at least dutch and englsih, higher they add french and german, extra lesson in spanish is possible, and when you are über smart you also get latin and greek

I had English, Latin and French at school, but I have been in a higher ranked school type. Would have taken Spanish for French if I could at that time, but I could not. What I wanted to state again: It is not that people here do NOT learn English from the early years ... even lower ranked school types offer English ... but you simply often just DO NOT NEED it. You could spend a whole life here without knowing a single word of English, and since the direct neighbour countries learn German anyways at school, some people welcome that and make themselves feel comfortable

But countries like BeNeLux and Scandinavia are alot more dependant on foreign languages just due to their population and/or country size (compared to GER). So that's where you find another reason why language education might have a lower level here.

Which does not, and I can't say it often enough, mean that there aren't average/good/decent english speakers here. Since we are more, your chance to meet more douchebags is just bigger

("Rule of the great figure" or however you would call that, don't know the english expression for that).

Anyways, I think this topic has turned away a bit from its original purpose

So germans live in there own world, and we in the actual one where we do need english simply because it's everywhere

Ur not telling me that when u turn on MTV, all you see is nena in germany right? that would suck.

IMO have every kid, in every country that has the means to do so, learn english, its THE international language. It's fkin annoying when ur in turkey and the receptionist at the hotel ur staying in can't speak a word english. When i asked for breakfast, she prolly thought i was renting a car.
