Drugs are helpful.

Um... do stuff you like, talk to a doctor... music, watching Family Guy or Simpsons, laugh at funny stuff.

NO NO. No drugs. Nuh uh.

I usually just forget everything and do what I love doing: Photoshopping, playing CS, etc, and It doesn't hurt to get religious (I'm a catholic).

MOST artists deal with depression. The two seem to go together. Dont be alone, get some sunshine, go rollerskate or swim, find one thing that is bothering you and do something about it. Even a tiny thing. And I dont mean get sunshine, friends or exercise in a condescending way. I mean it's proven to improve mood by giving you vitamin D and endorphins.

I'm not depressed and never have been. However, I assume it would work sort of the same way as stress.

When i'm stressed there's two things that help out a lot: food, eating makes me happy; and working out, helps with the first part, and makes me feel better.

if you need to cry, then cry. If you need to complain, get a sheet of paper and write down all of your thoughts and emotions and be as blunt as you want. Even if nobody ever sees it, you'll feel a thousand times better knowing it's somewhere other than trapped in your mind.
I've had depression, hell, i've been there myself. I'm there right now. It's hard, but as long as you can keep yourself occupied, you should be okay. Just know that you can't always be occupied, and you'll have to face it and beat it down with a wooden bat at some point, because you can't let it drag you down forever. Depression happens, and all you can do is accept it as a human feeling and know that there is always, always something better coming no matter how severe it may get.
Do something that makes you happy. Get out, call someone, play a game, watch a movie, treat yourself to something. Sometimes I find it's easier to express my true feelings to complete strangers than it is to go to someone I know in real life. I made a thread about my relationship situation, and I felt a hell of a lot better getting it out and not hearing the rude thoughts/snappiness from the people who are close to the people involved.
If you need to vent, there's always your friends, family. There's also a few great people on SRF you can talk to, and I'll read as much as you can type if it'll make you feel better to get thoughts off of your mind.

I wish you the best of luck, hun.

Two of my friends that do a lot of hard drugs have brain chemical imbalancements now and are chronically depressed because of them.

First of all, thank you for all the comments, some made sense, some were a bit 'off' :P But everyone experiences different things in life and has their paradigms. If you don't care to read a bit, read no further than this paragraph - just know that I think I figured it out, and I appreciate the time people took to post here.

after a ton of internet research, and a discussion with my childhood friends father (psychologist for 30+years now), We have come to the conclusion that I most likely have moderate ADD, and Im having mood problems due to no treatment throughout my lifetime and the buildup of issues that are really interfering with my life now. (treatment not just meaning drugs, adaptation exercises, etc.)

So he instructed me to see a counselor who I can pay on a sliding scale to diagnose me and refer me to a psychiatrist. He even says he told my parents a long time ago that I probably had ADD and should be seen, but my parents couldn't afford it, plus their issues imposed on me are most likely the cause of my ADD and they probably forgot.(Alcoholic/Substance abusing Father, Manic Depressive borderline Mother)

My Mothers been telling me for a little over a year now that she thinks I had it in childhood. She recently began teaching High School english courses and says she recognizes a multitude of aspects of myself in the couple ADD kids she instructs.

So based on all those together I figure I have clinical depression stemming from complications with ADD. I'm hoping thats close, and that treating the ADD will inherently cease the depression.

Awww Florida ftw!

Good luck on your treatment. I heard a lot of people mention working out, but no one mentioned yoga or flexibility training. Just burning calories will make you healthier, and give you something else to think about, but improving your flexibility is different. You learn to breathe and discipline your body. Stretching and relaxing are important, and if you have a lot on your mind, it can help to calm you down and sort through things with more clarity. Plus, if you have any sort of lower back pain, stiffness, etc. that come with being stressed, stretching can help alleviate them.

Yea go outside, go to tha beach if u live near the beach (i live on an island, beaches are plentiful lol) hand out wit friends, try not to be alone, eat sugar....get a sugar rush.

In short just occupy your time you think about whats depressing you.

I drink occasionally

I'd recommend against that-- alcohol is a depressant. It's not going to help you.

Instead of drinking, you might want to consider just having a glass of water... or at least a pepsi instead :P

As to depression, I'm not really in a good position to give advice on getting over it.

I have found that in the last 10 years of my life, any and all pits of depression were caused by:

1 - Because of a woman
2 - Because of work

Seriously, any real problems that would keep me lying awake at night worrying or bring down my moods falls into one of those catagories.

Anything else is minimal.

Daily events that could potentially piss me off usually "play" off one of those two. I might only be in a bad mood because of work earlier and just took it out on something else. Speaking of which, I have a headache at this very moment.

Taking a bath helps too..

Also don't drink too much because drinking just intensifies your mood, so if it's bad it'll go worse..

I know how you feel.... :(

I'm depressed as we speak, I lost all my friends from my depression...

So now I'm lonely, and depressed....

But, I try to cheer myself up by listening to music that has things that have happened in my life..

They make me feel really good. I still miss all my friends though.

I feel embarrassed that I'm so pathetic to have no friends at my age.

But, it happens...

i am an extremely moody person. i ahve struggled with depression several times in my life. for me, it stems from stress. my stress stems from financial difficulties more often than not. as i continue to bolster my income, i am less stressed and therefore my moods swing less.

everyone needs a release. i have several. SRO was one until recently (since the hacking it's been more of a source of stress than a release), and music is another. if i didn't have that catharsis, i would explode.

find what it is that acts as your catharsis, and pursue it whenever you can.

since alchohol has been mentioned a few times: i have struggled my whole life w/ addiction. i have an adictive personality, and when i was younger i was in a pretty bad place. i cleaned up for a LONG time, and alchohol is the only drug i still use. i am very careful with monitoring my intake and making sure i don't get excessive, and my friends are key in that, but i KNOW that i still use it to self-medicate sometimes. i won't tell you not to drink, but i WILL tell you not to use it as a vehicle to try to cope w/ your depression. it WILL only get worse.

PM me any time. i am always here to listen. i'll add you to MSN :)

My suggestion is for you is to just go out with your friends or don't go out, invite them to your place if you want, but just do something to take your mind off what your going through. When i'm feeling down and out i call up a few friends and we go for a ride (Or my girl and we go for a ride), if your adreniline is pumping you wont feel pain (mentaly or physicly). Try do avoid alcohol as it can make things worse, have a small drink if your out with your mates but don't sit at home and drink bottle after bottle. Get out of your comfort zone, try something new, get as excited as you can. If you have a special person in your life get together and have some 'fun'. A friend of mine was depressed after her parents split up said to me that the best thing she ever could have done was talked about it with me and the rest of her friends and to go to seek medical help. Don't live life in the dark, get out and enjoy it. Remember get the excitment going :)

I'm not saying this is necessarily true in your case but it seems that a lot of people that are 'down' about something currently start claiming they are depressed and it turns into a spiral that just gets worse and worse.

One thing that I don't think anyone has mentioned but getting a good nights sleep does actually help.

LMFAO I missed that before :D

I know what you mean...but the hamstrings are actually what leads to most lower back pain, especially in men. Don't bend to the ground, lay flat on your back and pull your legs up. Hurts less trust me :D
