"right away" doesn't prove to me that Joymax doesn't care. The only thing I got out of that is they were basically telling people "yes we know some of you bot, and have been working to prevent that. We now have new methods, so we suggest you stop using your bot software right away, as it is no longer 'safe'"
Maybe I just have more faith in Joymax than some people do. It just depends on how you read the text. I still think they should have not given a warning about the ban and just do it quietly.
Missing the good times in SRO...
SRO: 1x, STR Blader (Thebes) 54, STR blader (Venice) 0x, INT wizard (Venice) 19, INT spear (Venice) 34, STR rogue/bard (Venus) 0x, STR blader (Venus) 8x, INT bard/cleric (Gaia)
guys, do not underestimate the GMs of iSRO, look at SRO's korea, chinese, japanese counterpart, they are mostly bot free. im pretty sure iSRO will become like them one day

You are forgetting that in kSRO people have to sacrifice their SSN's to bot.
In jSRO very few resort to botting .. it's just they way the Japanese are.
Sunaj wrote:Honestly if I was Joymax...I would have done this without notice. Catch every botter offguard and ban them all to hell lol. But I guess they are giving them a chance to come clean, also they want people to keep playing and buying silk and hope previous botters that will have no choice to be legit keep buying silk. All business strategy, cant blame em.
Meh, I vote security through obscurity. Without the announcement more people might be caught.
The botters will just have one big holiday on the 20th now O.o
FullHouse wrote:Oh God let me translate it for you. They either pay 2 play by hand or bot. If they bot they can play for free, they give gold to web cafe owner and he sells it for cash.
so they bribe ppl.....that sound's so stupid I mean seriously this is what it deserves: -.-'

I seriously doubt that because hardly any1 plays silkroad in kSRO, cSRO, jSRO and tSRO I mean you should see there server status it's almost always easy or populated

"Okay, we're going to ban a bunch of you on Tuesday, July 24th at 15:00 hrs. Be sure to transfer your botted goods and gold to other accounts before that. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but look forward to seeing you back online in 2 days once the update to your bot program is released."
WTF....just don't say a damn thing & drop the ban hammer and then send out this msg:
Inspection completed, 7/24/07 16:00 hrs.
Data backup.
Oh yeah, we also banned a S**tload of bot accounts, kthxbai.
Morons, FTL.
dude they are actually doing something, why do you gotta be such a fking dumb @$$ about it, you fking moan if they dont do anything and if they do you cry like a baby. ffs ppl !"$"$%"!%"&$%!"##"$&#%/%
rant: Only dumb a$$ here is you, if you believe you should tell someone that is doing something wrong how to avoid any security measures that are going to be implemented in the future. If you are following the rules, then you have no need to know when the ban is taking place. How the hell do you expect it to be effective? Do you see the Farkin police broadcasting DUI checkpoints two days beforehand? Obviously you don't get the point.
It would be nice if they banned more bots, but in the meantime I can live with them; however, my patience grows thin for those that can't see the common sense of not broadcasting any bot bans. They don't have to tell us when they do it - We'll all know the answer when we go to grind. /rant
ps.:
By the way they are killed by npc hunters at the gates. By bored thiefs.
So lightning bow npc hunter/thief still hits everything after the updates
This type of banning seems its going to be different from the other kinds they have done before.
I mean are they using a new security system similar to game guard to detect changes within the client?
I believe its obvious that theres going to be some kind of scan of the SRO Folder. That seems to me to be the only way to know if a client is "Abnormal".
They seem pretty sure it will work. But all the bot programmers have to do is find some way to disable the scan before entering sro.
Oh well Joymax should know what they are doing, no sense wondering whats going to happen, we will see tomorrow and the next couple of weeks. With luck they did the right thing to minimize bots to a bearable extent.

They gona take the easy way : small modification of sro_client.exe / changing client-server communication.
At login server records every account using old protocol.
^^process took from lineage2
Any scanning of files or directories other then the sro dir/files would be recognized by av. utils as virus intrusion.

Yea, but Lineage 2 wasn't exactly an angel when it came to bots either...what I gather from the court case was their policy was to ignore them and ban the accounts of those who made too much of a fuss about it...
An avid collector of good animated avatars and signatures because I'm just that cool.
ODIN BOT UNIONS *More will be added as they appear or change*
Suggestions to fix iSRO:
-Gold wipe
-Daily Bot bans
-Make SoX items acquirable only with Honor Points
The warning is immaterial, they have already caught the people they are going to ban. They already have the list ready and are just going to ban them. They are trying to let those that arent getting caught in this round save themselves from being banned in the future.

Where could u possibly get that from?
Most likely they are just still like before, and they told all the botters to replace the client cos they will still ban silk if they dont get banned^^

Because in the last big bot ban on Xian, I knew someone that got banned that hadn't played the game in 2 weeks because they had their char stuck in the water. They were already caught, they dont just ban the one's that are on at that very moment, it's a long process and they let them continue to play till they have an inspection and ban them all at once. Warning them AFTER they are caught doesnt much matter.

Hmm , then why do they warn? To me it sounds like they just want botters to replace their sro_client so they dont get banned = money for JM.
The only think I can think of as to WHY is because they dont want the bot makers to figure out exactly what it is they are detecting maybe? If it was an instant ban, the bot makers could try different configurations and see which ones pass the test, right? This way, the detection process is long and no one is sure when, where or how they are getting caught and that should reduce the number of those that "get away" with it.
