I really doubt female equip has more drop rate then male lol.

And chick isn't really degrading or anything I think but not being a girl myself I guess I wouldn't really understand lol, but probably seems like you see them as objects instead of women? Or maybe they don't like to be described as a baby chicken? lol :d.

"Chick" sounds cheap. Like, look at that chick over there -> look at that prostitute over there, that kind of thing. Not that I ever cared cuz nobody calls me a chick anyway :P They call me master. :D

Btw,What is the game surf?

Surf is a part of CS:S (Counter Strike Source). It's basically like sliding/surfing on ramps. Fun stuff ^^

where can i download it?

You have to buy CS:S in stores or get an account from a friend to play ^^

duh noob..
:P
All this talk (aka post count inflation) of "surfing" in CS and no one mentions Tribes?

On topic, I think your character in game should be a reflection of who you are. If you are a guy but you feel like a girl on the inside then go ahead and play as a girl character. But don't give me this BS about looking at "male polygonal ass" all day.

To answer the question of how many women play this game, I say who cares? If you are asking them so that you can be a "gentleman" to them, save them the trouble. Real gentlemen are courteous to everyone.

Uh, why? It's an MMORPG, massively multiplayer online role playing game. Not a massively multiplayer online be yourself game. If I wanted to be myself, I'd go to the mall and hang out with the few friends I've got, not play a game. Next thing I know, you're going to tell me that people that play Gnomes/Dwarves/Elves wish that they were midgets in real life

If you are a guy but you feel like a girl on the inside then go ahead and play as a girl character. But don't give me this BS about looking at "male polygonal ass" all day.

Uh, BS? The three biggest reasons men play female characters:
Stats
Fooling other players, for cash/items, or distracting them during PVP
Looks.

Stats- only kinda effective in SRO, given that the only thing that would be different is armor- that said, female armor is said to be cheaper and more common

Fooling- the fact that someone cared enough to post this thread is proof that this works :P Not to mention, it's been shown that FPS players using a female character generally do better statistically, because A- Female bodies are usually smaller targets (doesn't apply in SRO), B- People will go easier on them (Whether you consider it justified or not, It's the truth.), C- There is a split second more hesitation shooting a female character than a male one.

Looks- like it or not, not everyone wants to spend all day staring at a male avatar shuffle and run and listen to them scream and grunt. The success of Tomb Raider proves this :P Seriously, if you walk up to a random guy on the street, and ask if he'd rather spend all day looking at a woman scream, yell, and shake, or a man, what do you think he would answer? Honestly, most people that play female characters are probably FAR more comfortable with their sexuality than you are. Like I said earlier, "feeling like a girl inside" is just silly. Again, are you saying that someone should feel like a midget inside if they want to play a dwarf? Should I feel like a gymnastic Italian that likes spending time in sewer pipes to play Mario? An anthropomorphic fox that flies through space shooting other anthropomorphic space faring animal to play Star Fox?

Should I feel like my father is the King of All Cosmos and that I need to roll a ball around the planet to make stars in the sky in order to make up for him driving drunk to play Katamari? Games are supposed to be an escape from reality, not a reflection of it.

No one role plays without a reason. Who you are determines what you role play as. But that is only if you are actually role playing.

feba wrote:Uh, BS? The three biggest reasons men play female characters:

Looks.
Stats: Perfectly acceptable, in a game where classes are gender based. Still doesn't apply to SRO.

Fooling: If you do it for cash/items then you are scum. Simple as that. If you do it for some tactical advantage you think you have, then be aware that any fool who would fall for it would die just as fast by a male character.

Looks: Sure, if you have fun looking at curvy females while you play go ahead. I don't really care what my character looks like. But anyway, by your logic most people are playing for stats, fooling or looks so don't play the sexuality card. That would only be valid when you are role playing as a female as well. Which brings me back to the "feeling like a girl inside" argument. If you are like that and want to role play as one as well go ahead. I respect that.

You started out by putting role playing in bold but none of the arguments you brought up had anything to do with role playing. Role playing is acting as something you are not. Now if you play a female character and are male then tell me, do you act as a female character too? When you are wearing a hunter flag and you meet a thief, do you just kill him for no reason because you are a hunter and that is your role?

I think you'll find that most people just play as themselves when they play these types of games.

The thing is no one really actually role plays like "that", I mean everyone I have ever met and talked to(except the noobs who pretend to be girls, not just play female chars) was themselves, they didn't pretend to actually be some ancient time warrior or something like in the game lol.

You know, i've never made a male char... It never occured to me till the issue of males playing female chars came up. Dunno why I would ever play as a male. Im a girl, I dont want ppl to think Im a guy. Not because of any advantage (I dont anymore than I have already) or because I need help (I can hold my own no problem) but because... Im a girl. I never get sexually harassed, anyone who tries doesnt get a response from me and it's hard to harass an empty chat box. Sometimes I get, "OMG YOU'RE A GIRL?" and I always say, "Yup" and dont elaborate.

Everyone knows about Fly anyways... lol And the mean side of my commentary is errr well known. (Fly calls me his runaway death train, ask him why sometime).

I will never understand why guys play girls online. It's hard (for me) to view a man who plays a girl char as a MAN. I even refer to ppl I KNOW are male IRL as "she" (Ryoko, SG, Master, etc) because they ARE girls ig.

All that being said, it's a fantasy world online. I dont have pointy ears or green eyes like my char. (Or furry breasts like her either, thank gawd)

EDIT: Ask Dark about his experience with a guy who pretended to be a girl..... LOLOLOL (No, it wasnt sexual and he didnt hit on her/him)

Who you are determines what you role play as.

Untrue- again, this would mean that people that want to play as dwarves etc. When was the last time you played a video game because you identified with the character? Think about GTA- That's popular because it lets you do things you'd never want to do in real life, with no consequences, and no guilt. Have you ever played Super Smash Bros.? Playing as just about any characters besides Marth, Roy, and Link would make you a freak, by your standards.

Stats: Perfectly acceptable, in a game where classes are gender based. Still doesn't apply to SRO.

Way to completely ignore my point about armor being cheaper/more readily available.

If you do it for cash/items then you are scum. Simple as that.

Depends. If you string someone on, lie to them, etc, then yes, you're a horrible person. However, if someone just walks up to you and offers you something for being female, that's their own perversion at fault.

If you do it for some tactical advantage you think you have, then be aware that any fool who would fall for it would die just as fast by a male character.

Again, way to completely skip over the point I made. It has been statistically shown that people are more likely to hesitate when fighting female characters. Respectfully ignoring Mr. Disraeli, that means a lot more than your opinion.

You started out by putting role playing in bold but none of the arguments you brought up had anything to do with role playing.

Just because you don't speak in character doesn't mean you aren't role playing. When you look at your character, and you think "What is that?" Do you think "me" or "an ancient warrior. my avatar."?

I even refer to ppl I KNOW are male IRL as "she" (Ryoko, SG, Master, etc) because they ARE girls ig.

I do the same thing. What's weirder is when a friend is switching back and forth between their male and female character, and I start mixing up pronouns- Or I call them by one nick, but use the other's gender :P

Which brings me back to the "feeling like a girl inside" argument.

Which is just sexist.

I've roleplayed a fair bit, male and female characters...
Elves, dwarves, aliens, lizards, cat types, dog types.

heck, I've even roleplayed as an intelligent silicone based stone humanoid.

but sro isn't really a place you can roleplay. i mean, you could try.

you just get a "wtf? fu.ck you noob ks me" in reply though

I've had all but a couple of the character choices in this game, its not because i feel girly inside, or for sexual appeal, fooling or shit like that.

it's a character choice, you can choose what you want to.

hmm, I'm making a new character... ah! I want to play as this girl this time! ... ooh, but i haven't tried the old dude yet, he'd be cool doing flips and shit!

pretty simple really.

in SSBM you choose a specific character. OMG you're pikachu?! but he's yellow man! thats so ghey!

it's a character ¬_¬ big woop.

on the OT: i normally play as Link in Red ^^ (Only character I'm ok with on that game)

I used to play as Marth and Roy. It was funny as hell to use that sword move to just knock people off the map instantly. Last time I played it, I was using the lighter characters- Fox, Kirby, Dr. Mario

my brother was always kirby, I'd beat the crap out of that pink little punk and he'd always come floating back, so i'd charge an attack and beat him out again... and again and again until eventually he hit off screen far enough to sink or get shot out

That's the best thing about kirby- he annoys the hell out of people

You'd be surprised how many people give up after awhile.

Second best thing about Kirby, he's pink, he's a ball, and he sucks. You seriously cannot find a better source for cheesy gay jokes.

Now you bring up single player games, once again. Most single player games have some sort of a linear storyline behind them, making them far more similar to something like a book or movie where I suppose you could identify with a character. You aren't the only one controlling the character, there are times when the character acts on its own will (such as in cutscenes) and so you are encouraged to behave like the character. As for SSBM, that is completely invalid because in fighting games, people almost always choose their characters based on moves. I use Falco myself, but I don't see myself running around in game and shooting a laser. I see Falco as the end result of my input through the controller. He's just a pawn on a chess board. As far as how who you are reflects who you choose to play as, if you aren't serious and just play around you are probably more likely to choose someone like Jigglypuff or Mr. Game and Watch (although you could still choose both based on their moves). If you feel a bit evil you might choose Ganondorf over Captain Falcon, even though they are pretty much clones. Perhaps you like the color red or enjoy explosions so you choose Roy over Marth.

feba wrote:Way to completely ignore my point about armor being cheaper/more readily available.
If you can't find that +5 male hat you've been looking for then either look harder or buy NPC equipment. Or just have someone gender-change it. If you are shopping for SoSun you aren't going to see a difference in between the prices because anyone serious enough to have/spend that much gold on their equipment is just going to gender-change it if need be anyway. What happens if you did choose a female character and you saw a really good deal on male SoSun equipment? You are going to gender-change it. Sure, you can't change Gold Dragon Flags and female ones are typically cheaper. If you want to play as a female character just so you can have some bonus stats while grinding or because you perceive a large gap in between the prices/availability of male and female equipment then be my guest.

feba wrote:Depends. If you string someone on, lie to them, etc, then yes, you're a horrible person. However, if someone just walks up to you and offers you something for being female, that's their own perversion at fault.
Agreed. However, even if I did play as a female character I wouldn't accept such gifts because that's not the sort of person I am.

feba wrote:Again, way to completely skip over the point I made. It has been statistically shown that people are more likely to hesitate when fighting female characters. Respectfully ignoring Mr. Disraeli, that means a lot more than your opinion.
Show me these statistics. Sure, it's true in real life but in games where any character can be physically as strong as any other (don't get me wrong, there are lots of women in RL who could beat the snot out of most men) I don't see this effect. If some girl character runs up and smacks me I'm going to smack her back, simple as that. When I play SSBM using Falco and I see someone using Peach, I am going to flash run over there and give them hell, regardless of the fact that the character they are using is a girl wearing pink.

feba wrote:Just because you don't speak in character doesn't mean you aren't role playing. When you look at your character, and you think "What is that?" Do you think "me" or "an ancient warrior. my avatar."?
When I look at my character, I see a collection of polygons that practice my will in game. Again, like a pawn on a chess board. When I talk in first person, saying perhaps "I'm in Hotan" it's because it is the more natural way to speak. It requires less effort than saying "My character is in Hotan" just as it takes more effort to talk in third person in real life. You skipped over my hunter/thief argument completely. Role playing is more than just putting yourself in the position of the character. It's doing that AND acting as the character as well. It's true that you could spare a thief while playing as a hunter and still be role playing, but your character and not you has to be the one who has a reason to do that.

feba wrote:Which is just sexist.
Elaborate on how that is sexist. Sexism is "discrimination and/or hatred against people based on their sex rather than their individual merits" according to Wikipedia. I treat everyone with respect, including those who choose to role play as the opposite gender so I don't think that qualifies as "discrimination and/or hatred".

I don't see why all these rebuttals are necessary because my initial post was just making a wisecrack at all of the people who make it sound like it's an such an effort to have to look at an armored male butt while you play. I don't think that all guys who play as a female characters do so because they feel like girls inside.
