one noob question what is a gap?

hello i heard lots people talking about gap
like 0 gap 2 gap lvl9 gap what doest that mean? can some one tell me pls

a gap is the difference between your highest level mastery and your level
for instance:

you are level 16
your highest mastery is 7
16-7=9
therefore 9 is your gap

still dont get it what does the gap help u to hunt creep
you get more exp or sp? if u had higher gap or low gap? would u please explain me ^^

Larger gap= less exp more sp

you level slower but save up sp for skills
