New computer.

Hi.

I'm gonna buy a new computer but I need some help with what parts to buy. I'm buying the parts off a swedish site so the best thing would be if a swede helped me. But I'll translate if needed. Or you just give me the names of the parts and ill look up them on my site.

The price should land somewhere in between 700 and 900 dollars.

Suggest better parts. Does all components work with eachother? Have I forgotten something? Have I choosen good quality brands? Etc.

Actually its a rather nice build. Most brands hardware wise are the higher end. The cooling, nice choice on that. Seem like it all should be compatible. The RAM is dual channel right? Pretty sure the board is ready for it. Either way 1 gig should do if your on a budget. But would be cool to upgrade later if possible to another set. All i can think of right now. Good luck with it

Well the sound isnt major now. The onboard would do but it might put some extra strain on the CPU...unless the board has the onboard sound CPU. (believe i read somewhere about some boards have that, gezz havnt kept up with stuff)

theres no reason to be a AMD atm. i like atm, but intel's core2duos wipe the hell out of em. and im talkin about same prices, not even mentioning overclocking.

im noob. suggest a model? what ive heard; amd is way ahead of pentium, but then again im newbie.

i am also an AMD fan, but he IS right, right now intel is ahead of the game. but right now are the key words!

i would probably still buy AMD however. just cuz i love AMD.

I would stick with AMD honestly...price/performance are good. AMD will rise back up how they were for a couple years ago. But yeah dont do Vista lol stick with XP

Yea but he wants to build a computer soon so why not save money and get better performance now with Intel? And you're getting a DX10 card so why not go for Vista? I think you should make up your own mind about Vista. It's gotten mixed reviews from people I know and from reviews on the internet.

2 major problems.

1 That motherboard won't fit in that case. The case is mini ATX and the motherboard is a full size ATX board. Not a huge MSI fan but that's up to you.

2 Power supply is too small. With that graphics card you want another 100 watts. Minimum absolute minimum of 450 watts. 500 watts would be better.

Check out pcmech.com for reccomendations on motherboards and power supplies. These are the last 2 places that you want to skimp and try to save money.

Well in terms of overclockability, the intel gets better overclocks than AMD. If you're going XP then you won't need a DX10 card and should reconsider buying an 8600 gt because there is probably a better 7 series card for cheaper and better than the 8600 gt.

Well there aren't even any DX10 games out yet. Getting the DX10 card now isn't a problem but they will probably drop in price soon. BUT by the time the DX 10 games all start coming out Vi$ta should be on at least service pack 1 and much better than it is now.

More watt does not mean that it's better. What you do want is more Ampere over the 12V line, a 400 watt Zalmann for example will perform better than a cheap 800watt no name thingy.
So check out the power supply's there and go for one with a good performance/money ratio and with more than average Ampere over the 12V line.

The GFX card, I couldn't calculate the price right so I just took the average price we have here, which is about 130 Euro. You said you would stay using windows XP, so getting a Dx10 card is useless( Dx10 is not supported by windows XP ). So maybe you want to look for a Dx9 card which will have better performance than the 8600GT for around 130 Euro, perhaps a X1950pro?. (Don't worry too much about not having a Dx10 card, my brothers Dx7 card lasted up till now and still has good FPS in the newest games which are Dx9).

Totally agree. That's why I gave the link to pcmech. Research which brands are quality and which are crap. BUT, regardless of quality you need more than 380 watts if you plan to use an 8800.

Wow Psych008 are you purposely trying to embarass yourself? I didn't know anything about making computers 2 years ago and tried for the first time AND I overclocked the first time I built my PC too. It's not that hard to learn. I know alot of people who built their pc's for the first time and also overclocked for their first time. You have no logic in what you say. In fact all you're doing is insulting the thread maker's intelligence. Overclocking is NOT hard to learn.

Wow, I can honestly say you know nothing about overclocking. It's very noticeable. The e6600's go at least 25% over stock speed if you know what you're doing. Overclocking is absolutely safe if you read everything and follow the guide like you're supposed to. People don't just overclock for FPS, they want more performance in other programs.
