ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- Investigators are looking into who altered pro wrestler Chris Benoit's Wikipedia entry to mention his wife's death hours before authorities discovered the bodies of the couple and their 7-year-old son.
Benoit's Wikipedia entry was altered early Monday to say that the wrestler had missed a match two days earlier because of his wife's death.
A Wikipedia official, Cary Bass, said Thursday that the entry was made by someone using an Internet protocol address registered in Stamford, Connecticut, where World Wrestling Entertainment is based.
An IP address, a unique series of numbers carried by every machine connected to the Internet, does not necessarily have to be broadcast from where it is registered. The bodies were found in Benoit's home in suburban Atlanta, Georgia, and it's not known where the posting was sent from, Bass said.
Benoit strangled his wife and son during the weekend, placing Bibles next to their bodies, before hanging himself on the cable of a weight-machine in his home, authorities said. No motive was offered for the killings, which were discovered Monday.

oh and for your information Benoit had a match on saturday but didnt turn up sitting family problems....it was then that his firends and family started to get strange text messages form him. and then 2 days later on monday they were found dead.
CONSPIRACY theories have sprung up surrounding wrestler Chris Benoit's murder of his wife and seven-year-old son and subsequent suicide.
The most popular notes that Benoit's Wikipedia entry listed Nancy as being dead at least 13 hours before police discovered her body.
It read: "Chris Benoit was replaced by Johnny Nitro for the ECW championship match at Vengeance, as Benoit was not there due to personal issues, stemming from the death of his wife Nancy."
Chillingly the update was posted from Stamford, Connecticut - where the WWE are based, although NOT from their headquarters.
Wikipedia editors removed the information within an hour after its posting early Monday morning, because it lacked any 'factual references'.
The anonymous poster was then tracked back to Stamford.
WWE lawyer Jerry McDevitt has said that no one at the WWE knew Nancy Benoit - who used the names Woman and Fallen Angel in her wrestling days - was dead before her body was found Monday afternoon.
The strange text messages Chris sent pals, which led to the company alerting police, also did not arrive until hours after the entry had been changed.
McDevitt added: "I have no idea who posted this.
"It's at least possible Chris may have sent some other text message to someone that we're unaware of.
"We don't know if he did. The phone is in the possession of authorities."
In all likelihood this was just an ill-timed 'joke' by a prankster after they heard Chris had missed the big Vengeance PPV on Sunday night.
A person using a computer with the same unique IP address as the one which edited Benoit's Wikipedia page has already contacted the company to state that it was not meant to be true.
He or she said: "I posted the comment we are all talking about and I am here to explain that it was A HUGE COINCIDENCE and nothing more.
"Keep me and my family out of this since they have nothing to do with anything."
Wikipedia can be edited anonymously by anyone around the world and often is.
Wrestlers are often said to have won titles, move companies or even died - when no such thing is the case.
It is the same for all sports' people and celebrities.

Respected American scribe Dave Meltzer explains: "The edit came from Connecticut, but not from WWE headquarters.
"The WWE later found that on its chat line at 8:41pm, during Vengeance, after Benoit missed the show, someone on a WWE chat said that he missed the show due to his wife dying.
"Later, when the person was asked where he heard the story, he said: 'Meltzer reported it.'
"An hour later after the Wikipedia entry was taken down, someone from Australia edited it and again put that Nancy Benoit had passed away, attributing it to 'several pro wrestling web sites'.
"I didn't know of this until today when questioned by WWE who asked if Benoit had called me, which he hadn't, nor did I report it or know anything until Monday afternoon, after the WWE wrestlers were told.
"It appears it was a hoax started by someone and given credibility by usage of my name, no more than the daily fake stories people make up on pro wrestling chat boards, they appear to have led to the Wikipedia edit, thus becoming a big story."
Another theory doing the rounds, completely without basis, is that the death of female wrestler and Nancy's pal Sensational Sherri on June 15 was somehow related to the murders.
In a real development authorities raided the office of Benoit's doctor Phil Astin, who had treated the star for low testosterone levels.
It has been reported that Astin's medical license was suspended for 30-days and he was put on probation for five-years for 'unprofessional conduct' for the oversupplying of pills including amphetamines, antidepressants, tranquilizers and narcotics.

IN another disturbing twist on the Chris Benoit killings, it now appears the grappler murdered his seven-year-old son using his own wrestling finishing hold.
Police in Georgia are speculating that Benoit ended Daniel's life with the Crippler Crossface – the same move that he used in almost all his matches, including when he beat Triple H for the heavyweight title at WWE WrestleMania XX.
Police were originally confused by bruising on the young lad that wouldn't have been there had he been strangled.
