It increases the chance by 5%. It doesnt guarantee a success, just increases your success rate. Having said that, there are times when you just couldnt get anything to succeed (much like what happened to you). I tend to avoid doing any alchemy on those days. Set yourself a limit, say 5 failed stones in a row, then stop and try again in 2 hrs or the next day. I've had 20 failed stones in a row before I decided to put a system in place

With PT and it all done on the same day.....

* All done without Astral and almost all blue done in 1 stone...

also, i find doing alchemy best after grinding and in a 4 person PT in a non-laggy place
