Yeah.

Especially if you're really good at it.

Depends. All your opinion. Some people like to dance ballet. Some don't.
Try it and see for yourself - it's actually not hard to learn. Take it from me, a guy who didn't think he could do it at all, but learned to PK2-Edit pretty well.
If you don't like it, just remember to backup your Media.pk2 file, and then replace it with the one that you PK2-edited.

No one has been banned for this yet, well at least no one has told others about being banned for pk2.

I did saw a screen of someone banned for pk2 edit...but it could have been photoshopped

you wont get banned AFAIK..only when you use it in your advantage.

note: you know that the pk2 edit is only visible for you and you only ;)

yeah I know it's not a huge amount. I think I only know 2 ppl that got banned for it. But you know that dude on ummm...shoot I think it was Xian or something who duplicated his SOS sword a ton of times and put em all in a stall for 800k each? Joymax had to remove all instances of that exact item from the game during an update. I heard it was pretty funny. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I know how he did it, and it wasn't actually technically a duplication, it was most likely a very complicated PK2 edit.
But hey any day now Joymax could decide to ban everyone with differently sized pk2's and then there will be lots of otherwise honest, pissed off ppl. Not really worth risking your account, especially if you're high lvl.

You can't change that because the item instances are server-sided, not client-sided. It's not like you could send a packet to the server saying "I'm creating this item out of another already existing".

there's a combination of many things you can change that can result in massively unfair hacks. Obviously I'm not going to post them here or everyone would cheat like crazy and Joymax would ban everyone with any alterations, which apparently people have said they don't want to happen :P So the moral of the story is don't do it and you have 0% chance of getting banned.

I will post one simple cheat some people are using. They're blowing up the 3D model for tiger girl to like 50x size and using that dumb zoom hack to zoom way out and see her from a distance and run right to where she spawned. Some ppl can be real dicks when they cheat, huh? If joymax finds out they're doing that, the only real solution is banning everyone with a modified media.pk2 where the tiger girl 3d model file is held.

JM can't tell if you have a modified media.pk2 file, unless say for instance, you are swearing ingame, or creating gm chars, which they can tell in-game.

yeah the JM can't tell in game but the SRO client can be programmed to check the size of the pk2's before launching. More likely than them banning thousands of people for that, they'd just not let the client launch the game unless the pk2's are the correct size.

No, if you edit the PK2, you have to make it to have the same size with the original ones in order for the game to launch. So to check the file size before launching is useless. Only just to program the client to check the file's content :), so noon can edit PK2 anymore.
