The newbie topic.

Post by Waisha »

I thought I'd make a topic to all the people who are new with PS or just need to ask something. So start asking. :P

Ill start off:
1. Where can I find renders/backgrounds?
2. Where can I find cool text styles (3. =fonts? :P)
4. What's a sprite?
5. What's the most common and basic techniques you use in PS?
6. What's good to start with when it's your first time using PS? Follow guides or experiment?

Thanks.

2. Where can I find cool text styles (3. =fonts? :P)

4. What's a sprite?

Any tag or signature that uses a focal subject that fits entirely within the tag, see my bottom sig for reference.

5. What's the most common and basic techniques you use in PS?

Brushes, pen tool, blending modes, clipping masks, layer masks, and gradient maps.

6. What's good to start with when it's your first time using PS? Follow guides or experiment?

follow guides, most definitely.

http://www.tech-gfx.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=2797 PENTOOL - is the most important tool in photoshop, inarguably - cleanest selections and has the ability to create some wonderful images.

http://www.tech-gfx.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=4234 A selection of basic tutorials in photoshop.

Thanks.

CS3 is way better, optimized for system performance, and it interacts well with other programs (illustrator, etc) Plus its always a good idea to be training/learning on the industries best software.

No dice? :? xD All I ment is that the [ur l]-[/ur l] brackets in your sig have a space too much and it should be like DeviantArt

Instead of
DeviantArt

;-)
Edit;
woah, wait.. -.- wtf? >.<

Ok, I've looked through about 10 guides now. Did the pen guide.
What sig creation guide is good to start off with? Suggestions? I'm half way through ol3n's stickied guide. It's a bit complicated i think.

you're in the same position i was in a few months back.

the way i started was i found a tutorial on here for a sig i liked a lot that used a bunch of different techniques, and i went through it and followed it more or less exactly. it gave me a really good idea of what does what, when to use which filter, etc. now i'm to the point where i can visualize in my head what i wanna do and be reasonably sure how to get something approaching the results i want out. trial and error mostly. but that's the most fun way to learn. Ctrl+Alt+Z = best friend :)

Just read a lot of tutorials, and then try toduplicate it. Sometimes you fail miserably, sometimes you come with a new effect you might like. Like SG said; Trial and Error. :)
