Anyone ever had their computer lock up from a party req?
Has anyone ever got a random party req then had their computer lock up and become unresponsive? I recieved a random party req about an hour ago, saw the guys lvl and tried to leave. When I pressed "Leave Party" my computer locked up and beeped about 4 times. Then my hd started to rev up like it was trying to access something. Then it unfroze but my computer was SLUGGISH. Fraps reports my fps ingame to around 56 fps. After this happened I was getting no better than 20. And when I tried to exit the game it stalled for the longest time. Even opening up IE took about 20 secs of my hd making very loud noises.
I was thinking some malicious code was sent to me though the game so I just reformatted. Has anyone else ever had this happen?

WOW I got the same answer on the official forums. Well near the same...they said it was an overheat. Ok let me post my specs.
P4 2.6 Ghz
1gb RAM
Geforce 7600 GS 256mb
200gb out of 250GB left on my HD
Game runs super smooth any other time. It's under no strain at all. Please don't give these bs responses about ram and overheating like it's pure coincidence as soon as I got a party req my comp locked up. It has never locked up before.
I hate when people reply with answers like that. It's like they are trying to say I don't know my own computer and don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

OMG....the stock fan. I RUN AN OPEN CASE. IT WASN'T AN OVERHEAT. WHEN I WAS INTO HL2 I WOULD HAVE THAT GAME ON ALL DAY. SAME SETUP. NO PROBLEM. MY COMPUTER HAS NEVER LOCKED UP WHILE PLAYING ANY GAME. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER.
I was trying to post this to see if anyone else has run into something like this. And I have seen threads on the official forums about a hole in the party system code. I also wrote this thread as a warning to people not to accept random party reqs.
BUT PEOPLE REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED. SO FORGET IT. LOCK THIS THREAD.

Damn...is this whole community just retarded? Someone with some sense please post. 256mb ram is the onbaord video. 2x 512mb sticks Corsair brand is my system memory.
Who said I lag everytime I create a party? IT was just this ONE time it has done this.
Btw tiglari51 and BrokenSaint...its a bad idea to have your login to sro the same as your username on these forums. You better have a good pw

Yeah get that very often ... but pretty random ... sometimes such a lock up nearly kills my char ... another time it is really short ... for example if I am in town and tab to a browser or something and then suddenly hear someone on TeamSpeak go like "Oh-Oh-Oh-Oh" for some seconds and my mouse doesn't move I know someone left the party ^^
Then all goes back to normal.
Then all goes back to normal.

If you want a real answer, there is none unless you provide us a dump of your RAM contents and if Joymax provides us with source code. Neither is gonna happen so of course people are throw dumb guesses around. You mentioned that it happened once so call it a bug and forget about it. Software will eventually work and hardware will eventually break. Thats just how it works. Based on Joymax's shoddy record, it isn't surprising SRO just coughed up and died.
BTW, you shouldn't run an open case because you mess up with the airflow in the computer. Also, you'll fail a bunch of FCC regs, but who cares about those.

You guys are the most ignorant/illiterate motherfuckers I have ever seen in my life.
Where did i say it happened before? And my computer isn't dead. It's normal now after the reformat.
I KNOW what happened. It wasn't faulty hardware/hardware failure. That was an attempt at exploiting a bug in the game code. All I asked in the thread was has it happened to anyone else.

It happened to me twice, and i have plenty of ram. It has nothing to do with that (new pc, build for gaming). Must b bots, lagging u out.

Are you stupid or something?
Your topic title asks "Anyone ever had their computer lock up from a party req?"
That was my answer to it ... YES, IT DOES LOCK UP, BUT NOT AS BAD AS YOURS. Why your Comp goes even further after that I cannot tell you, mine sometimes seems to crash but then things go quite back to normal. But my comp isn't that good anyways so it sometimes has to work alot when playing SRO.
But the game's coding seems to be not so ressource-friendly, as friends with good comps have similar problems from time to time.
So don't bitch that nobody helps you, rather change your topic title into "Help my with my problem" if your first question doesn't fit anymore.

Server lag is not going to make my hd rev up like it was. I had no lag whatsoever. The the game locked up like a system crash. The game locked up for about 15 secs....hd started going crazy and the my computer starts to beep.
You are telling me it's total coincidence that I got a random party req and then that happened?
Nothing even remotely similar has happened before.

Yeah dude Im not talking about surfing the web with other apps running or whatever. I'm not talking about multi Farking tasking. I'm not talking about that kind of lag. I'm talking about playing the game with nothing else running then someone walks up and parties you. Soon as it happens my comp locks up and goes from damn near 60 fps to 20 and then beeps continuously. And the my HD is put under strain. And even exiting the game and starting up other apps is slow to the point that I need to reformat and reinstall windows.

The reason I said that is because 1 gig ram should be enough to run silkroad. I was just making a HARMLESS joke if you actually had 256 ram instead.

Wow you suddenly know our pw/id huh?
You come in here, and make a post and ask for help. And we are trying, yet you make an asshole out of yourself by calling us ignorant and illiterate, thinking you know it all. You think we're stupid? Throw your pc out the window and cut yourself for bitching in these forums. Stop posting and get out. Get your help somewhere else. Better yet, figure it out yourself. Spare your mouth for everyone else. It's not worth it.
Mine has locked numerous times out of the blue..........and at times i get the BSOD (blue screen of death) and something about kernel_popcorn, dump memory, going to safe mode crap or somthin' and its dam annoying
dunno much about computers......can anyone tell me what i need to do with this problem?
Don't confuse LUCK with SKILL
