Several ways you can improve lag:
Check processes: Use ctr+alt+del to see what is running. You prolly have a LOT of things you dont need if you havent checked this often.
Check start up processes: Go to start, choose RUN and type in "msconfig" Choose the last tab called "Startup". This is a list of everything your computer runs automatically at startup. The only thing you really need is your antivirus stuff, so uncheck the rest of the things you dont really need.
Add more RAM: Makes a HUGE difference if you can afford it.
Call your ISP: If you are on a high traffic server through your ISP, ask them to change it, or ask for the most bandwidth you can get without paying more. They will be happy to oblige most of the time.
Update your video drivers: CHeck with the manufacturer of your vid cards and make sure you have the latest. Id do this step last because sometimes, new drivers have a tendency to just mess ya up. lol
Get a better vid card: again, makes a HUGE difference if yours is old.
Try not to use wireless: Again, limited bandwidth.
I covered everything I could think of. LOL
