I can't play silkroad at all, when i start silkroad, right after the GameGuard thing i get the question mark error, i have this for a week now, and i'm soo frustrated because I CAN'T PLAY AT ALL.
I did everything possible, also that whole page you guys said, nothing helps me :cry:

I am new to the game of silk road and i cant even get into the game for some reason i have spent about 6 hours downloading different clinets and other thing trying to get into the game. But nomatter what i get i get this error massage

i met with this error screen too. i played sro before appr. 3-4 months ago. yesterday i decided to play again, installed the game and patches. when i try to run the game this ???????? error comes on screen.

my system specs are not supremly, its right. however i played this game before on this machine (toshiba satallite a20-s259 notebook)
intel pentium4 2.4Ghz
1gb ddr
Trident CyberAladdin chipset integrated VGA

what is your opinion guys..?

Ok, recently i downloaded KRSO, installed it and made in English, all works. but everytime i get the ??? error when launching sro.
when i played on ISRO i never had this error.
I did all what this topic says but nothing works, anyone got some suggestions?

I did all of that, Made em Windows98/Me. Also Updated the drivers, DL'ed the patches. Nothing new, after I click start game, GG comes up, and the "?????" Error Continues.. My friend DL'ed it the same time as me, but his works fine, He has an older PC too.

Me and my Guild Members on Rome Get this message randomly. I will be grinding and all of a sudden silk road is gone ... 2 minutes later I get the ??? message ... OR the C+++ message ... I don't know why ... I don't care why ... I just want it fixed ... I only get it 1-2 times a week or so but it is annoying. I also hate the constant disconnects!!

The problem with this error is caused by overheated CPU.

You can check it in BIOS after the error occurs.

So, lower the temperature!

I have taken down EVERY Firewall ... Turned off EVERY program on my computer except SRO and required processes I have a dmz threw my router, and my computer isn't over heating because I have a BIG fan on the processor with the side off the machine in a cold air conditioned room ... I still get ???? errors from time to time with no warning.

I have an ati Raden 9250 with 256ram on it ... a 250gb hd 1.8ghz processor running at 1.79 ... and 512 ram ... and an onboard sound card. I keep EVERY THING upto date. I even do beta's from time to time to stay ahead of the curve. I don't know what more can be done on my side. I still get it randomly.

I also had big fan on my CPU, but no silicon grease between radiator and CPU

Check the temperature in BIOS immediately after error.

SilkRoad has 100% of CPU usage!!!

BTW: I have similar configuration as you have, except graphic card (GeForce 4200 Ti nVidia).

I have a Dell .... There is no temp in the bios ... but it is a 1.8ghz processor ... I also do need more ram ... I am sure it is mostly caused by some type of memory leak

I'm now getting the ?????? error every time I try to play silkroad... It comes up after the GameGuard thing, after the option/guide/movie/exit/start screen.
I changed the .exe files' compatibility.
The graphics settings are as low as they can get.
I added Silkroad to the firewall exceptions.
I'm not standing in a populated area.
My NVIDIA settings are at "Quality".
My computer -just- did its automatic windows update things.
My internet cache is clear.
I never got the ?????? error before, except for a few times at the very beginning, before I changed the .exe compatibility.
The ?????? error started the -second- use after I returned from not turning the computer on for four days.
I don't have enough money to buy a new graphics card, and mine has worked fine until now (NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX 420).
I have little-to-no PC knowhow.
What do I do?

FIXED IT!

Ok, it looks like either downloading the driver from NVIDIA's site, or changing some DEP thing did it.

Could somebody edit the first post of this thread to include all these possible suggestions I've seen?
-update graphics driver
-control panel --> Performance & Maintenance --> System --> Advanced --> Performance/Settings --> Data Execution Prevention --> Option 2 --> Add --> All 4 sro .exe files
-change .exe files' compatibility to Windows 98/ME
-run CCleaner (I haven't done this)
-wait 20-30 sec. after opening SRO
-lower graphics settings, on both the graphics card and in sro
-match the moniter's resolution with the sro resolution
-make sro an exception in the firewall (windows key + R --> Wscui.cpl)
-windows updates (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)
-clear Internet cache
-reinstall SRO, download the auxiliary files they provide, or get a new graphics card (I didn't do these, either)

Edit: Next day - a tiny additional piece of information for you -
SRO loaded fine twice, but after windows automatically updated, I got the ?????? error again. I did all those things listed above -again-, with restarting after every few. After the second (I think) restart, no ?????? error. Huh.

The exe files are (generally) in C:/Program Files/Silkroad
and are called

replacer
SilkErrSender
silkroad (Silkroad Online Launcher) *beneath the file title*
sro_client

As for this problem it was never seen of last time me and my girlfriend played silkroad (which was for a few months) but recently we reinstalled it on both our comps and we both get the error straight after GG initializes, none of the fixes have work thus far and comps are fully updated i use ati she uses Nvidia.
SRO worked on both computers in the past so i can only assume its a recent patch causing the errors we receive now (regardless of how long this thread has been dragged out for)

Further more, those who get to play for a few hours, or get the error while stalling, or even every 15 minutes, should count your blessing that you get a chance to play at all

Yes I did this but it only prolongs the crash, and I also checked the 'disable visual themes', I am going to try without all this and see if its fixed.
