If it's a hacked exe for SRO from a botting site, then he's either going to be banned OR get his account stolenPutting a keylogger inside an SRO exe is super easy because everyone lets it through the firewall to connect to the internet so they can transmit the name and password you put in anywhere. Btw I'm a programmer so trust me when I say there's like 101 super-easy ways for them to detect that you're not using the real one.
As for Vista, everyone in my IT department at my college agrees that nobody should ever upgrade to a new version of Windows until the first service pack comes out for it. Before then it's just a barely useable buggy piece of crap that will drive you nuts. Plus Vista takes so much resources doing its stupid useless background crap that it's just not something you want to put on your computer ever really. Plus, if every gamer boycotts Vista, the Vista only Halo 2 for PC that's coming out will be released for XP when they realize nobody's buying it.
Apparently you haven't tried vista before, I have a computer that can't run all the features yet. But, I still love my vista...there are a few bugs here and there and it does run a tad slower. I don't notice much change in my gaming though, other than having to run some in xp compatability mode

Vista wont work with SRO right now, I installed and everything.. then it goes it like it's gonna play and all the sudden it will just.. crash.. right when it goes into "3d" mode.. i suspect this is a compatibility issue with the drivers.. i mean i tried both stock vista drivers and ati drivers, nothing seemed to help.. i even turned it into compatibility mode for XP SP2 and still didn't work..

Here's the issue. Your copy of Vista is pre-RTM, which means that it's a beta edition. Beta means bugs. Bugs means things don't work. And I really doubt Silkroad supports Vista anyway. When the O.S. hasn't been released yet, you can't really hope that the game will work on something the developers haven't experienced. And when it is released, expect a couple of months to pass before they fix it. Vista costs a lot, and companies aren't exactly the first on the bandwagon. It'll take them a while to actually get it, then another while for them to play with DirectX 10 SDK when it's released. So don't really expect it anytime soon, and don't expect anything to work out right on a beta.
Also, the vista beta says that you shouldn't use it on production machines, it should only be used for testing purposes.

hehe for all the new people
I know there are some people out there who don't understand wut liukanng said I was one but figured it out. To fix the direct x problem what u do is u right click ur silkroad icon. choose properties then click Compatibility and choose under Compatibility Mode choose Windows XP (Service Pack 2) but be sure to check the box first for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" you don't have to choose windows xp service pack 2 but its runs more smoothly with it. then click Apply then load it should work. If silkroad is a little bit laggy set ur grafix back. All I did was simplfy wut liukanng said so I hope it works sorry for all the typing errors I just want to help plus I was busy so I had to type it fast good luck.

People! I can play Silkroad just fine! But sometimes when i start the game, i get a pop up that says sro.exe has stopped working..
I can play fine, not that.. but always when im gonna exit the game, i get the same message..
Today it happened while i was grinding! >.<
There should be some patch or somthing to fix this..!

BOTTOM LINE: Silkroad won't work fully on Vista for maybe another half year to full year. Also, if you get it to work, it's going to be a heck lot slower than in XP/2K.
>NVIDIA/ATI have no stable graphics drivers. All are in beta and they cause blue screens. They provide basic functionality.
>Vista is new OS. You have to give all the programmers a long time to learn the new features and everything else.
>You can modify the client and everything all you like, but if you get banned it's still your fault even though you can claim you're trying to fix Silkroad.
I have Vista Business (no Aero) myself, but it runs in a virtual machine, since I'm not willing to wipe my entire computer all for the sake of running a new and unstable OS. In a virtual machine, there's no Direct3D support, hence I can only get to the launcher, hit Start, and BSOD.

I've been running Windows Vista and been having some issues with SRO in the beginning until I had the luminous idea of just going to Microsoft's DirectX downloadsite and installing DirectX from the download provided.
Windows Vista works standard with DirectX 10, but when you run this installer it installs a complementary DirectX 9 which solves every issue with SRO.
Hope this helps!
It did for me anyway...

EDIT: I have the solution, it's a modified exe file of the launcher which disables the directx error. If you run the modified exe and silkroad without any compatibility settings at all (don't check run in compatibility mode) then it will work. Oh yea and keep Windows Vista's video drivers, using the ATi ones gave me the blue screen.
Can someone translate this to good Dutch =P ?
