If god does not exist, then how did the universe begin? They say, the Big Band began with superheated, compressed matter etc. etc. But where did the matter come from. How did it appear out of nothing.
For only God can create something out of absolutelly nothing.

Because he created you. He loves you and he has a plan for you to live eternally. That's why he won't kill you.

But killing you would be no real punishment. The worst possible punishment is going to hell. And there is no way out from there.

And where do god come from? How did he appear out of nothing? Never asked yourself those questions? Its the same thing. Just because we don't understand something, it doesn't mean it can't be real. By being religious, you live by this rule as much as an atheist do.

Same on some other country first to the church or alaha or whatever they called and pray first "god blablabla" and after the church now we go and kill some ppl or do some bad to ppl we get a Blessing from god so it is ok ..........

Religion connects people under one almighty or several almighty forces that let the people that follow the religion united and part of a group.
Atheism allows people to become independent under no leader and allows the person to have free will.
I believe what "God" teaches about character is right, but no one should follow another.

IMO its ppl own choice.I myself believe in god ( muslim ;D ) it NEVER hurt u to lsiten to someone who may tell u something bout his religion because u never know if his religion make more sense to you ( shit said >_> )

There was a teacher and he asked a pupil if he believe in god he answered yes, the teacher answered but how can you believe in him ? u cant see him so he doesnt exist!

I have the freedom of my pleasure to lose by confining myself to the standards of Christianity or Catholicism.

Perhaps some of you didn't read my earlier post. I myself take certain ideals or morals from different religions that appeal to my sense of things; I believe that it's foolish to live the standards of only one.

Hmm about heaven and hell: I find the entire concepts of them to be stupid and funny. Especially the concept of hell. If you don't believe in God and be thankful for what he and Jesus have done, you will be punished for the rest of eternity(that's a long time) by damnation in hell? First of all, that's incredibly petty and almost childish of God.

Second...well, just picture a huge place of both intense fire and ice, with infinite amounts of people suffering in numerous and unimaginable ways. And you may see why I find the idea funny.

I believe that God or gods exist in people's minds as a source of inspiration, shelter, and help...essentially, as a loving father that can help insure one's well-being. People like to have that kind comfort to resort to. It helps them run through their every day lives.

When in dire trouble, people desperately want and seek a source of help and comfort. God is a very convenient thing to believe in and call out to during bad and trying times. Sometimes, you just need SOMETHING to reach out to to reassure yourself and your will.

I don't necessarily believe that once I die, my consciousness is dead and done as well. In fact that very thought scares the crap outta me - but I don't think we go to heaven or hell. Too simple of an answer. I dunno what happens, it's something I think about kinda often.

Sometimes, i wish i could believe in God. Its not that i picked the rocky road of forsaking religion, its that i woke up and realized that this thing called "religion" is out of this world.

I have put the whole concept of faith into a metaphor:

Your wife is pregnant. But you ascertain that your baby will be badly retarded. You have to come up with the decision to keep or not to keep this baby.

This retarded baby, symbolizes the absence of meaning and destination in life.

If you keep the baby, you will have to cope with all the crap that life brings and make the meaning yourself and journey your life without knowing where it will lead you.

Many people take the easy road and do an abortion. Thats what i would have done if i had a choice. Yet i had to take this Retarded baby.

Mostly i am happy and proud of myself having the courage to take care of this baby. And other days i envy the ones who have faith in their silly gods.

RELIGION = SELF-DECEPTION IMO

I say 'GODVERDOMME' atleast 10 times a day and I don't believe either, it's just a habit. People in Germany say GruB Gott(sp?) too (greet god) as their Hello.

And godverdomme means GOD DAMN ME, said when you've done something bad and want to pay for it, but it is used as cursing nowadays.

This sentence is pretty old... already has been said and it's used always by religion attackers, as well as "the universe couldn't have just appeared from nothing" is the eternal sentence from the defenders.
I can't tell you where the universe come from (if i could i would be rich and powerful hehe) i just think that our minds are still working on it. Many years ago people didn't know what caused the rain or why sometimes there were earthquakes, etc. Now we have unveiled many "secrets" about nature... but the universe is big... its enormous and i don't expect to get an answer right away because i know we don't have the knowledge and technology advanced enough to discover it, yet.

The answer will come (if there's a world to live in because war and contamination might destroy it first), if we keep searching for an answer.

I always see good ppl die of disease, accidents or others do something bad, But they really bad one lives the life. Not fair at all......So is strange why god dont do something ? So for me I dont belive god or another RELIGION at all..

My personal opinion on religion is it is a way to control the masses. For this I shall back up my opinion with factual examples:

The babalonians controled their people through religion.
The catholics still control their people based on religion
The christians control their people based on religion.

Thus I musta say I think religion is just a way to control people and get them to live how you want them to. Also religion I think is also just a way to help people cope with the fact of death. If there was no religion people would be scared of death even more. They would think that once I die what is going to happen to me? Do I just fade away or do I live on somewhere or somehow? That is why religion was made to have something to hold onto. But I believe that in no way, shape or form that is it in anyway true. Also Catholic, and Christian religions contradict themselves so much it isnt even funny. For example: The Catholic church is a "non-profit organization", they how come they own, coca-cola, pepsi, vons, wal-mart? Ya explain that to me. Also why did they declare bankruptcy? And then turn around and say they are going to build a 23 million dollar private catholic school? Ya non-profit my ass.

Also there is a saying, believe only half of what you see and nothing of what you hear, can also be said believe half of what you read and nothing of what you hear. So why do people believe something that someone wrote thousands of years ago? Its a book, someone could have written it as fiction or just a book of good morals, or as other things and never intened it to become "religion"

In short I think religion is a way to control peoples lives, and there is so much factual data to support this it isnt even funny. Btw those catholics priests molesting little boys, ya thats real "preist-like" material. Such hypocrites the catholics, and christians are. Only religion I believe in is Buddahism, because they do not push it on others and it isnt made up of contradicting and conflicting passages from a book that could be fictional.

I believe there was more...and I believe that it was manipulated by the Roman Catholic church...of course.

But being touched by the holy spirit...and some other stuff...is what made me believe.

Not to bash you being "touched by the holy spirit" and all but, you do know that the mind is a very powerful thing. Those "miricle healers" and what not usually heal by convincing the person they are healing that they can heal, once you make someone truley believe that someone can do something your mind can do amazing things. So this is what I think happened to you. Unless you "heard the voice of god" yourself, then I dont think you were touched by anything but your own will to fix yourself
