Scary Day.
Just now, a classmate of mine. Not friend, simply a classmate nearly died... in my arms.
It was geography, everything was normal. All the students in the Computer Suite researching online and preparing for our expedition in a couple of weeks time.
It was nearly the end of the lesson, possibly 8 minutes till the bell, when from behind me i hear a semi loud grunt. As i turn around to look, i see the guy sat up in his chair, head back arms crossed and shaking... i couldn't see his eyes though, which had rolled up into his head. Thats when the guy sitting next to him shouted "Shit i think he's having a seizure"... the class froze motionless.
Except for the one sitting next to him, and me. We were the only ones who went to his aid, whilst the rest of the class stood their motionless. However, i cannot blame them. This was a scary moment, and i myself was shocked, my heart pounding fast, not knowing exactly what to do. So we shouted for someone to go and grab the nurse. However, until she came it seemed as if it was just us three in that room. The teacher, unsure what to do gathered other teachers, and my fellow students just stood there, also not knowing what to do.
We put him on the floor, and he was still grunting loudly, his muscles were so tense and his eyes were still rolled back, he kept seizing. He couldn't speak, he was foaming at the mouth, he couldn't control his actions, he was completely powerless. We didn't know what to do either, the best we could do was roll him on his side, and hope he doesn't choke on any of his saliva, or the eventual vomit that was to come...
He stopped grunting, and went blue.... He was still not breathing, and now he lay their lifeless with all his muscles still tense. This is when panic came in, his neck kept bending further and further back, afraid he would hurt his spine or neck, we had to push against his neck, to at least keep it from going any further. Yet, still he was not breathing... we kept calling his name. We kept shaking him, until finally in desperation we hit his chest, and he took 2 large breaths. However, this is not where it ended. He want back to seizing. He kept grunting and foaming, and worst of all, for me at least. His eyes, they were fixated on me. It was the scariest moment i have ever experienced, his non moving eyes, just staring at me... The thought that he must be having...
Then the worst, he stopped. His muscles went limp. He stopped moving, his eyes went back into his skull, he started to go blue again, and his breating stopped completely.... We shook him, we shouted at him, we compressed his chest. but nothing. He wouldn't breathe, people were starting to get worried now. There was no response from him no matter what we did. We put him on his back and kept compresing his chest, as in CPR but nothing, he would still not breathe, some people started gasping in dissbelief, his sister started to cry. I was shocked, i didnt know what to do. I was completely powerless, as he lay there before me. Me trying to help him... Finally the nurse arrived..
Before she was even in the door i shouted to her, he isn't breathing. He isn't breathing! She asked, have u tried compressions? Yes!, but nothing! then she said shove something down his thought! A pen, a finger anything!! So, taking the closest pen to me, we opened his mouth and in the pen went guided by my hand... he finally took a huge gasp, and coughed up a mouthful of spit. He finally started to improve, as the nurse took over and put him on oxygen...
Everyone was asked to leave. And the nurse and health officer took over...
My heart still beats.... this was only, 45mins ago.

omfg what a story >_< i heard something like this happened one
time at my old high school.. must be terrible to be put in a situation
like that. on the other hand, it must feel good since you did what you
could and the classmate lived. you saved somebodies life today..
there should be more ppl like you -_-"
but like you said aswell.. i cant really blame the others. if something
like this happens and nobody is prepared there is always a lot of ppl
that just freeze and they cannot help that. its just lucky in a situation
like that that there are ppl that keep moving, or have a stronger will
or naturally have the urge to help a fellow human being.

Wow gave me the chills.
Saw a dead body this weekend, some guy did a whellie, flew off at 70 mph, and slammed into a palm tree.
Yuk.

i dont think its a seizure, its this disease passed down through the genes
i dunno in english but in chinese its called "yang dian feng"
symptoms are
rolled up eyes, fall over, get all tensed up, foam come out of mouth, sometimes he will scratch himself and abuse himself.
there is no cure for this disease.
in this situation you grab his arms make sure he cant scratch himself and just wait till he passes out, you can't do anything about it CPR won't work and it wont work on a seizure either so idk why u guys gave him a CPR
also
YOU MUST NEVER PUT THINGS IN SOMEONES MOUTH DURING A SEIZURE
ne ways a cookie for you for your initiative, and remaining in a calm state to help your classmate but really i'm disappointed to hear a teacher stood there like a retard doing nothing.idiots like that needs to go back to teachers college

Damn thats some pretty scary shit,
BTW, putting a pen in his mouth was the stupidest thing to do, he wasnt choking on anything cos he had seizures, so it was something like an epileptic attack. If you put a hand in some1's mouth thats having an epileptic seizure you got a problem, at my primary school last grade, some girl had epileptic seizures sometimes and she nearly bit some1's hand off while having a seizure.
(they can't control their muscle's)

Hey guys, well Joey this is real. It really did happen this morning.
N yeah, im not sure what it was exactly, but i thought it was a Seizure, it probably was an epileptic seizure or something. I dono. The weird thing is that he has never had anything like this before according to people. And he lives in the Bording House, so they would know....
O, and yeah i know that he couldnt controll his muscles, thats why i wouldnt be crazy to place my hand in his mouth during his fit. Im pretty sure that the nurse knows that as well, and probably only told us that we could because he had completely stopped the seizures for some time, and now was just not breathing. He was choking on his own spit, and we needed to give him a gag reaction to get him to spit it up..
O n also, we didnt give him CPR, we only did the compresions.

never put your fingers in there, he could bite real hard and bite your fingers off
depends what it is as they might choke on it
but a pen would have been fine as long as it wasnt too far down

A wonderful deed you'd done key J. That is scary as hell.
so his tongue was in lodging in his mouth huh? Good to know.
I read about how to deal with passed out people (drunk) but not with seizure. FYI, for people who passes out like that, lie them on their side so they can vomit and not have it obstructs their breathing.

Good Job Key-J, you probably saved his life.
And as for the nurse, does she have any medical degree. Sticking a pen in a persons mouth while they have a seizure is stupid.
@MastaChiefX: Id hate to see that happen.

well at A SChool theres not much else a nurse can do

the nurse at our school once put a plaster on someones forehead because she had a headache

You did well, I've been in the same situation myself as my ex-girlfriend was an epileptic, and after living with her for 2-3 years I learned quite much (eventhough she never had an seizure).
Then at the store-line, this guy gets an seizure, so I grabbed my leatherwallet (quite big, not that I'm rich though
), shoved it in his mouth (just as takolin says you're supposed to) and just held his head/neck straight on the ground, as hard as I could.
So, my ex-girlfriend kinda saved his life as everyone else was just starring at me while I sat there, screaming for an ambulance. It took 5-10 minutes or something but it felt like hours. But it never got as far as for your friend though.
Good job Key-J, good job.

Ok, I respect chinese folklore and all but that desiese is indeed epilepsy.
The first known document on epilepsy in China appeared in The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, Huang Di Nei Ching, written by a group of physicians around 770-221 B.C. The description of epilepsy in this book and in many others later published was confined to generalized convulsive seizures. No documentation of absence or simple partial seizures was provided. The first classification of epilepsy, probably by Cao Yuan Fang in A.D. 610, listed five types of epilepsy: "Yang Dian," "Yin Dian," "Feng (Wind) Dian," "Shih (Wet) Dian," and "Lao (Labor) Dian." Later, other classifications named seizures after the cry of animals whose cry the "epileptic cry" resembled, or after "visceral organs" believed to be responsible for the seizures. The concept of partial versus generalized seizures, however, was not observed in any of these classifications. The treatment of epilepsy, based on principles of "Yin Yang Wu Xing," consisted of herbs, acupuncture, and massage.
As far as sticking things in peoples mouths during a seizure or epileptic seizure:
No. It is not possible to swallow your tongue. Occasionally, the tongue will block the airway (which is why the “swallowing” myth developed), but this can be prevented by placing the person on one side, allowing gravity to keep the airway clear of the tongue and any fluids in the mouth. You should never try to pry open the mouth when someone is having a seizure. It will not aid breathing and it may seriously damage teeth and jaw.
Hope this clears things up for people

I have to tell you though, sometime your jaws may lock/you start to chew on your own tongue, and that's why you're supposed to put something soft but still massive item into ones mouth (like and leather wallet).

its not folklore, i just didnt no the name for it in English
If this happens in the future you're sapposed to put something for them to bite down on because they could possibly bite their tounge off. If you do this make sure not to put your fingers near his mouth or risk having your fingers bit off ~it has been known to happen~.
I learned this awhile back because my buddy had seizures aswell and my mother who was a nurse told me this little fact.
