It's very common for people to seek to cover up something "unacceptable" by adopting an oppositive stance and flashing it in public.
It reminds me of people like Ted Haggert, the leader of the National Association of Evangelical who preaches against homosexuals in public... while he pays Mike Jones for gay sex and a blowjob.
And can't forget about former US Congressman Mark Foley, chairman of the Missing and Exploited Children and a fierce crusader against child predation, turn out to be a closet pedophile preying on young 16 year old Congressional pages.
As a psychology major, I will explain the reason behind this behavior. In psychological term, this cognitive mechanism is called "Reaction Formation." If you fear that you will be criticized for something, you make sure you act
very visibly to show that you are a long way from it. This is the physiological reason why there are many hypocrites in real life.
What are the signs of these type of people?
When a person takes a stance on something that is a bit extreme, then you should consider the great possibility that their
real views are opposite to this.
Can someone with this issue be "cured"?
Well, you help someone who dysfunctionally forming contrary reactions by creating a supportive environment where they can admit and accept their true feeling about something. However, since SRF is officially an anti-bot forum, it is very unlikely this will occur. Instead, this create a perfect atmosphere for people to have "reaction formation"... (aka anti-botters doing publicity stunts while they bot themselves). I would not be suprised if "PureOwnage" is a botter himself since he possesses many signs of it from my experience.
If you are one of these people (like Zehir in Xian), then do yourself a favor and be yourself.
