Karma System.. Your opinion?

Post by TwelveEleven »

Well i'd like a karma system, what do you think..

(Don't wanna force it on them or anything, just wanna know if people like it in general..)

What is a karma system?

Well basically it's a system where you can give another player + karma if you think he did something positive(Like help you/others out), and - karma if he did something negative (Like being an ahole)

The more karma points someone has the more people like that person, the less karma points someone has the more that person is disliked/hated.

Hope that makes it clear.. ;)

It goes like this:

Every 10 posts you gain 1 karma point to give away, that can be a negative or a positive karma point. So active forum users can give away lots of karma points, while inactives can't.

Actually this kinda reminds me of when I was in the RvB (red vs. blue) forums. They had points you could get, and based on the points you had you would get a level. Some forum sections were even restricted to higher level people ect. It was pretty cool. Maybe an admin can check it out and see how it is (not sure they still do that)

I think the idea is good, but with the mentality of some of the new, and not so new users around here, there is a HIGH chance for abuse.

Karma can turn into a popularity contest. It's been discussed a few times and not implemented.

Someone made the commet that they are smart enough to figure out who is full of it and who isn't for themselves. I couldn't agree more.

All I want is a ban button. Just one click ........ I can dream. And a delete all posts by user button....... sigh. I need to dig up that thread.

Ryoko brought it up. It's a great feature to deal with the the people like Stallowned's fan from the other day. One click and he's gone, another and so are all his posts.

Regular bannings would still be handled the 'normal' way. Mods that abuse power get it taken away. To my knowledge no one has had powers removed.

No blacky don't worry I wouldn't one click you. /Thinks a bit, no I wouldn't, I don't think. Hmmmmmmm.

As for the popularity contest, we've had to ban people here that were popular, even people we liked. Also vice versa, people that were hated by MANY should be allowed to stay, as long as they don't break the rules.

I'd hate to see a popular person have their friends mass negative karma someone, but it would happen. Just an example.

wouldn't really work would it? because something good and positive is defined by one's personal opinion, so a lot of problems will rise, including racism, noobism, and ageism.

LOL

I'd love one because I'd attract so much negative karma by giving harsh answers.
